Hmmm... is that a convertable? I know the 306 is - I'm hoping to buy one in January when convertable prices in the UK plummet. I've been dreaming about it for about 2 years now. Hopefully my husbands dreams of an Audi A4 don't stand in the way... :-O

I think the 306 was the predecessor to the 307 or 206, not sure, but still a lovely car. See them buzzing all over Cape Town, especially now during summer. But unfortunately my company resists in giving me the needed pay-rise. And folks, this car is very expensive  So for now I stick to a Skoda Octavia TDI. Despite of it's name as an Eastern Block Porsche it's a very reliable car (did 75000km within the last year in this car and have nothing to complain about!) Have a good day! Matthias

For the price of an X5 you can get two Land Rovers. So to me if you want to go off road but also go on road then get a Landy and get an M3, don't get an X5. Plus the running costs of an SUV are shocking. The only "SUV" that makes any sense is the Jeep Cherokee as it is damned good off road and reasonable on road. But still, they say something like only 2% of all SUV owners EVER take their SUVs off road. So whats the point? Too look good and gobble petrol/gas? Damned yanks. Hmm... I wonder if the numbers differ from place to place (Like Opel is Vauxhall here :P ), otherwise I think I will try for the 307 if it's newer. I totally dig Peugeot, although people here aren't that into them, possibly because they were never denied them by sanctions. Still, the Tazz does rock - I can understand you wanting to hang onto it. I have yet to buy a new car out of the box. I have numerous VW Beetle true stories to tell my grandchildren one day however

Finally, someone had to say it - BMW X5 - except it's cool it is too moch lowered down to go really off road. And I've seen Merc ML trying to cope with me off road - guy was also terified of rocks shooting from gravel road and bushes can really scratch your nice showoff car, dont they? I have Nissan Pathfinder 3.5 (base model-just with brushguard in front), which behaves reasonably well in the city and off road, and consumption is not bad for a such large engine. But Range Rover, ummm yummy, than H1, H2 (hummer) - I would rather buy range rover any time than X5. It doesnt look to cool, but it works were it should. SDK Maintenance Programmer

And a Nissan Pathfinder costs FAR less than some daft X5, ML or XC90. It will kick their collective behinds offroad. And it's finally broken my last shred of resistance. I figure you have two options... 1. There are over 50 000 CP members now, so a donation of about $1.50 from everyone oughtta cover the cost of that car (I hope) or... 2. I'll have no choice but to go on a bank robbing spree wearing a Codeproject t-shirt and matching ski mask. I like the new Thunderbird. i almost put an order in for one but was told I would have to wait 1-2 years to get the thing. So I guess I will wait a bit. I just bought a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV about 6 months ago that is really pretty nice. A bit underpowered ( 6 Cyl engine putting out about 180 HP ) but nice. I have a Thunderbird Super Coupe that is completly restored and can really fly. Thanks for the link, I wish I could afford it! By the way Austrian made and european military used Pinzgauer (sorry I lost the link, by I was riding personally in it it rocks) is way cool, it is 6x6 and has independent movement axles. I wish I could buy one as military surplus, than put it in the order - this is awesome car for going outdoors and camping etc. SDK Maintenance Programmer

However saying that I think this whole SUV (BMW X6, Merc ML, Volvo XC90 etc.) obsession is totally lame. You are effectively paying for something that cannot go off road properly and is not as good on road as a car half it's price. For the price of an X5 you can almost get two BMW M3s. No doors and no top pretty much exclude it, luckily, from SUV territory. I chose the Jeep Cherokee because it has good offroad capability but has doors, a roof and a plush interior. But the Jeep Wrangler is damned cool, for real offroaders only.
