It's finally happened. CodeProject has become a victim of its own usefulness and popularity. We've been overrun by hordes of purile and moronic trolls. What's the point any more? Chris can't possibly hope to curtail the rampant misuse of the self-submitted article system, and moderating the lounge is opens up a legal can of worms where liability is concerned (on Chris' part). For my edification, what's the real problem here? - Is it that articles are being posted that you don't want to see? - Is the lounge getting to many programming questions? - what is specifically wrong with the self- submitted articles? - Are the forum questions not appropriate for your level (i.e. you being advanced and many of the people using this site are not? - Are to many people people submitting articles with the intention of selling their wares? Not being critical here, just trying to get a better understanding and narrow down the problem area (90% of the solution is understanding the problem).

No, that's never a problem, although it's annoying the people often don't do any looking themselves, so many questions are MSDN101. Remember that a lot of new people that come into this site find it by searching for a solution to a problem (in my case, it was how to upload a file to a database using ASP.NET) and thinking "well, how much more useful stuff can I find here?". If instead they find five answers to one question and they're all crap (10-lines of text and an attached example), they won't look around and Chris doesn't get his advertising money. I submitted my first article yesterday and I'm honestly surprised at the positive response I've had from it. I wouldn't have been offended if it had been sent back with suggestions for improvement and if it had been a subject already covered (although I had searched) then I would have expected it to be refused. There's a tricky line between being open and being flooded by dross. If you're not open enough then it stinks of elitism and people stop submitting. If you're too open then too many people post dross and the authors who spend days and weeks over their articles don't see any personal satisfaction in being published. John, the only thing I miss is having you regulary in the Lounge. These days you only ever post to comment negatively. At least back then your staggering layers of obscenity and cutting remarks were fun to read. Sure some people got rubbed up the wrong way by you, but hey we aren't here to make new bum chums are we. Anyway, my 2 cents :)
