Similarities between visual thinkers and liars...

I was talking to a few software developers, UML designers, network engineers and I discovered a common trait... when I asked them about a technology or process sometimes they looked up and to the left. TV shows say this is because the person is lying, but why would someone lie about Object inheritance? Then, I came across this link, and it suggests that they are a visual thinker and not necessarily lying... http://www.blifaloo.com/info/lies_eyes.php[^] What do you think?

The two are not mutually exclusive. Looking to the left indicates you are tapping into the creative side of your brain. Looking to the right side indicates you are accessing the memory centers of the brain and the parts that deal with ordering. When answering a question, people usually have to remember something, so they look right. But in situations where memory isn't as important, and being able to internally figure stuff out is key, you will likely look left.
If I have accidentally said something witty, smart, or correct, it is purely by mistake and I apologize for it.

Shouldn't we also distinguish between lying and bullshitting? (Yes, there's often overlap. On the other hand, I once worked with someone who could bullshit like there was no tomorrow. When you looked back, you couldn't identify any single incorrect statement, but in totality the message he was sending simply wasn't true.)

Basically you have to distinguish between lies and deception, because the two are NOT the same. Anyone who's read Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series will remember the Aes Sedai witches... They were all sworn (magically) to "never speak a word that is not true." Hence, they became experts at twisting the truth to mean whatever it wanted. Using only true statements, they would imply something completely different and false. Hence, the quote, "Are you sure the truth you heard is the truth you think you heard?" When dealing with idiots, it can be a fun little game... See how much you can warp their perception without actually uttering a false statement :)

Damn!! That answers a lot of my own behavior! See... I return to CP just in time to get a psychology lesson. :) I do just that, if you ask me about my code, I look up to the right, and you can almost see me looking across the lines of code as my eyes look like I am reading as I remember the code. But if you ask me something related R&D I look up to the left and try fitting together loose concepts to answer the problem in a new method that someone has not done yet.
