MS really has done a good job with usability and with the app platform. I don't particularly care for the stark feel of the visual design, but that is something I could get over. What I simply cannot accept, however, is the lack of 3rd-party multitasking and copy-and-paste. WP7 will be the only major smartphone platform without these capabilities, and I can't see myself getting a phone without them. I use my phone to play internet radio in the background while I perform other tasks, and I also expect any phone I have to be able to switch to other apps while I am on a VOIP call without dropping the call. Furthermore, no 3rd-party apps can run on WP7 if they require a direct TCP connection. Copy-and-paste should be a no-brainer. MS claims you shouldn't need it anymore because of their smart detection of the actions you might want to perform, but I say it is impossible to predict exactly what someone might want to do with the content they select, without making an insanely long list of options. I copy and paste between documents, from the web to a document, between multiple emails I've received and the one I am composing, into a post I am writing, etc. I can't believe MS is leaving out such a basic capability. Posted from a WinMo Touch Pro 2 btw - but if this keeps up, my next phone will run Android, not WP7.

I am thinking that Microsoft's mindset is to get V1 out the door and not worry about limitations, just get it out there and let people laugh and mock it. Then by v3 or so they will get out what V1 should have been and start to invade the true market share. My question is though, with the market so live right now, will there be time for them for V3, that is, will the venders want to wait that long to be rolling with the big boys or will they are just jump the MS ship and go Android..

Exactly - especially with how long the platform has taken to get to market and the fact that the other platforms are so far ahead already. Entering back into a market behind everyone else and still making a big enough splash will be a hard feat to pull off.

Agreed. It's been clear they're not going to be able to match iPhone/Android as top line app devices out of the gate; IMO they should've put more effort into making them safe for corporate data. Matching blackberry on that front while still being a decent app device is an easier target and would give them a decent niche to start in since BB's are not seen as app devices and noone else does nearly as well at making nervous sysadmins and data security chiefs sleep well at night.

I read this article earlier today, and as someone who's been a MS enthusiast for a while, and an interested app dev. for all MS platforms, this worries me. I'm starting to wonder if MS can't even deliver the core functionality, then maybe I should focus on developing for other platforms instead.

Binging is like googling, it just feels dirtier. Please take your VB.NET out of our nice case sensitive forum.(Pete O'Hanlon)
BTW, in software, hope and pray is not a viable strategy. (Luc Pattyn) -

Agreed (though I haven't used WinPhone 7 yet). One of the things I liked about my new SPV E650 I got off ebay which had a WM 6.1 upgrade on it was the copy+paste which earlier versions of WM didn't have. And I use multitasking on my phone all the time with apps like IE Mobile, Live Messenger, Messaging, Media Player, Fizz Traveller to time cooking, etc.
