I think that's Harry Potter. :-) Anyway, it's a series of short, badly told narratives written by desert dwelling camel shaggers who knew no better: hardly worth reading unless you like lots of begets and begats though I prefer a nice tuna baguette.

Hey, there's gotta be SOMETHING in there worth reading, if it's been this popular for over 2000 years. Sure, I'm not expecting Shakespeare or Chaucer by any stretch, but I figure it has to at least have a little character development, right?

You may have heard about it on the news, otherwise go google. IMO this is just provocation. OTOH, a book is just a stack of paper with letters on it - I wouldn't RAGEQUIT* if a group of people decided to burn "On the Origin of Species" or "The God Delusion", I'd simply laugh at their barbaric behaviour and consider them to have lost "whatever it is they were trying win". IOW, it shouldn't have a provoking effect. (do I get points for starting nearly every sentence with an acronym?) * out of life. i.e, become a suicide terrorist. Discuss.
Bloody stupid idea. It's a jolly jape on the part of the publishers. Have you got a copy of the Qur'an? Neither have I. Are you going to buy a copy - just to burn it? Neither am I.

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)WRONG! Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's any good. Look at any book by Dan Brown - they're popular but you wouldn't want to read one. Besides, who gives a toss about something that happened 2000 years ago in the desert? How does that relate to contemporary life? How do I reconcile what I read in the bible (or any religious tome) with real life now? It's risible, at best; my life so reflects what some ancient person who lived 25 years did in a tent in the desert. Only an insane lunatic would buy into such drivel. I could go on but that would be as boring as a Dan Brown novel. Or the bible.

As a child my parents would bring me to church and try to make me religious, but then I read books that were not written by bronze age goat herders. I realised that the bible, and all religious texts, were providing answers for ignorance. But today we know the answers, there is no god of rainbows, there is no creationism, it is all bunkum and people who need the crutch of religion do so because they have been brainwashed by their parents. Teaching children religion is abuse. I saw the light, and it was science and maths, reason and argument, debate and reality, not bollocks and bells and smells, not ancient scripture written before refrigerators and computers, not hokum designed to create power and wealth for the elite.

You know that there is no intelligent design? I doubt you do, in fact I know you don't. You know a bit about the laws of the universe, an infinitesimal fraction of it. I don't think it is even possible for the human mind to understand the universe.

What a C#nt! There is no factual basis for religion except to aid the weak minded. Any defence of religion is an attack on logic and reason. Your turn cockboy

Yes, we know there is no intelligent design. All proponents of ID spout infantile non-scientific rubbish dressed with personal attacks because they cannot beat the science. Biology, Evolution, Physics, Geography, Geology, Cosmology, Vulcanology, Chemistry etc etc etc, all point to a much older universe than the idiotic 6000 years of the fuckwitted twats that believe in it. The very fact we have Uranium on the planet proves this, it's half life is 4.5 Billion years to Thorium, and measure Uranium238/Thorium234 ratios gives the approximate age of the planet. Argue that Mr Thicky!

Let's have a look at the definition of Myth:
A myth is a symbolic narrative explaining how the world and humankind came to be in their present form.
Now, maybe not all religion provide such a story, but many make the epic mistake of doing so anyway. Any such story can, due to their age, only be based on less factual knowledge than is available now, so they must be "less right" and therefore only serve to satisfy the curiosity of less-educated people. Unless of course we assume that they were true in the first place, so a God could be called in as authority. But since that's a circular argument, it's still invalid.

Hey, I'm talking literary value... You know, kind of like Aesop's tales. Think of it as a Fantasy novel.

Who gives a toss about something that happened a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away? How does that relate to contemporary life? How do I reconcile the teachings of Jedi-ism with real life now? :) Wait, there actually is a Jedi "religion".... Ok, but I think they know it's all a joke... At least, I hope they do.

Given some of the nutbags I've got quoted saying they'd just rape and pillage if not for god telling them not to I'm more than happy to let religion stick around. But let's note something, they tried to teach you it and it didn't stick. Unless they tried to beat you into it I fail to see where the abuse comes in. After the morons who named their child Adolf Hitler [insert forgoten last name here], my threshold for ideological child abuse hopped a few points. If that doesn't count, despite the likely polarizing effect of the name, I really fail to see how teaching your kid something is abuse. Unless we want to start counting Santa and the Toothfairy as abuse too. But that's the thing, while I'm so far unaware of any crusades in the name of the Toothfairy, I do hold religion at about the same level. Lying to a child will have it's blow back, but if someone really believed the toothfairy was real and would purge you of your sins(and first set of teeth) it's hardly fair to label it as abuse. They would consider anything less than what they do to be abuse, and they do, I can get you some quotes on that end of things too.

As an engineer, whoever designed the human body needs to be shot. For the love of crap, if we fall from the standing position we can manage to kill ourselves. Who's idea was that? It's either a remarkable result of generations of weighted chance, or a really crappy design.

So the indoctrination of children is acceptable? These children then grow up and kill abortionists, blow up airplanes and start wars because they were corrupted into believing in sky pixies. These children also have a disability in real learning. Teach an indoctrinated child about physics and evolution and they cannot take it, so they grow up in a world that is not filled with the wonder of science. May as well teach them to deliver pizzas as that is the level of non scientific education.
