Hey, there's gotta be SOMETHING in there worth reading, if it's been this popular for over 2000 years. Sure, I'm not expecting Shakespeare or Chaucer by any stretch, but I figure it has to at least have a little character development, right?

There is a small bit, and I'm fairly sure you can find it all in the Jefferson bible. Having read the thing I can say bronze age goat herders are not the greatest story tellers in history. Edit: Some of the Gnostic stories were interesting though, that whole Gospel of Judas thing being remarkably amusing.

So the indoctrination of children is acceptable? These children then grow up and kill abortionists, blow up airplanes and start wars because they were corrupted into believing in sky pixies. These children also have a disability in real learning. Teach an indoctrinated child about physics and evolution and they cannot take it, so they grow up in a world that is not filled with the wonder of science. May as well teach them to deliver pizzas as that is the level of non scientific education.

I'd put it more along the lines of inevitable. Unless we're going to start tossing them into tanks until they're 18 someone's indoctrinating them with their ideas.

And some develop normally, or even exceptionally in the modern world by simply noting their mythological beliefs are not the entirety of the world. By some I mean most.

There's always going to be someone like CSS in the world, I'd rather keep them ranting about how an invisible sky fairy is going to punish us all than have them pass chemistry. You do know that there are perfectly intelligent individuals behind many of the suicide attacks, they find a fanatic that they can use for their own goals, often political, and point them in the direction with a bomb strapped to them. It's not religion, it's the same old bullshit in the same old package. Without religion they'd just be using nihilists who want to take someone with them.

What a C#nt! There is no factual basis for religion except to aid the weak minded. Any defence of religion is an attack on logic and reason. Your turn cockboy

As I said, religion is not about myths are fairytale. It is about spirituality! If you are not spiritually awakened, you are not alive.

Let's have a look at the definition of Myth:

A myth is a symbolic narrative explaining how the world and humankind came to be in their present form.

Now, maybe not all religion provide such a story, but many make the epic mistake of doing so anyway. Any such story can, due to their age, only be based on less factual knowledge than is available now, so they must be "less right" and therefore only serve to satisfy the curiosity of less-educated people. Unless of course we assume that they were true in the first place, so a God could be called in as authority. But since that's a circular argument, it's still invalid.

You may have heard about it on the news, otherwise go google. IMO this is just provocation. OTOH, a book is just a stack of paper with letters on it - I wouldn't RAGEQUIT* if a group of people decided to burn "On the Origin of Species" or "The God Delusion", I'd simply laugh at their barbaric behaviour and consider them to have lost "whatever it is they were trying win". IOW, it shouldn't have a provoking effect. (do I get points for starting nearly every sentence with an acronym?) * out of life. i.e, become a suicide terrorist. Discuss.

I depends on the person. There are a plenty of people emotionally attached with the religion. Now, if you do something like that, they would either get depressed or will react aggressively. Again, definition of aggression differs from person to person. So, no one can say this is right or wrong. IMO, I would not like this act. Be it Quran or Koran as some of you spell it or any other religious book. I respect religions and anything related to it. Still, I don't think I would take part in any violent reaction to it.

Yes, we know there is no intelligent design. All proponents of ID spout infantile non-scientific rubbish dressed with personal attacks because they cannot beat the science. Biology, Evolution, Physics, Geography, Geology, Cosmology, Vulcanology, Chemistry etc etc etc, all point to a much older universe than the idiotic 6000 years of the fuckwitted twats that believe in it. The very fact we have Uranium on the planet proves this, it's half life is 4.5 Billion years to Thorium, and measure Uranium238/Thorium234 ratios gives the approximate age of the planet. Argue that Mr Thicky!

As an engineer, I marvel at the complexity of the machine known as a single cell. A single cell is mindbogglingly sophisticated. The body of a large animal is just mindblowing. No man could ever create such a machine. The animal has lived on this planet for over a billion years, and has adapted to its surroundings, managed to power itself, and managed to become self aware and solve the mysteries of the universe.

So, you cannot be spiritual without belonging to a religion? Any old religion will do?

You know that there is no intelligent design? I doubt you do, in fact I know you don't. You know a bit about the laws of the universe, an infinitesimal fraction of it. I don't think it is even possible for the human mind to understand the universe.

I do. The whole Pharynx, Larynx, Oesophagus, Epiglottis ensemble disproves Intelligent Design.
