According to this[^] the $20 million is only 1/20th of the whole pie. I don't care what or where you're talking about - $400 million is a "chunk of change"!!!! Mike Mullikin

It sure is. If I had that sort of money I'd buy Vanuatu and move there. I'm sure you can get more than Vanuatua for that price including the relocation costs. Is it for sale ? Regardz Colin J Davies

I see Bill Gates is giving 20 million dollars to IT education in India. Is that like, 3 cents a person ? It's small change compared to how much they can save by moving development work there, from what I understand of wages there. Well why don't you then offer to donate 4 cents a person? In my country we have a nice saying that translates close to: "Put up or shut up..." ;-) Tomaz Tomaz Stih, B.Sc.SE

If they are going to give it as software licences, then it is worth nothing to India. My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

I heard that it was more like $400M. Cheers, Simon "From now on, if rogue states want to buy weapons of mass destruction, they're going to have to go on eBay," Mr. Bezos said.

We have a saying too. Something about smelling what you're shovelling... My point is that when companies blow their own trumpets about stuff like this, it's often donations of product ( which in this case means each $200 is more like 2 cents ), and it's for their own benefit. Yes, I quoted the 20M from several news feeds on CP, only to be told it was $400M, above. Its $100 over 10 years, with a population of 1 billion. That makes 1 cent per person per year Revenue from M$ sales per year............ Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

The $400 million is investment in software production. The 'gift' is $100 million over 10 years, or 1 cent perhead of population per year :~ Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?
