Nah, not the same at all... I live in the middle of New York City, but I grew up in the suburbs of the same... So this is more like where I grew up.

Not in the city itself... My company has an office in Surrey, so I'm staying out here.

I don't know any "Brits", but, being a Brit_on_, I can give you a few pointers:

There's a very simple rule: In the UK, one drives on the left; elsewhere one drives on the wrong.

Once you get used to living life at the correct temperature, things are much better.

This one is for all of you Brits... Every time I visit your country, I get completely confused, because everything is backwards... You drive on the wrong side of the road, and... well... ok, so it's just that, but it's still disorienting! And it's like ten degrees cooler here than it was in New York... And the air conditioning in our Surrey office is even worse than the air conditioning in our New York office... Sigh... Five days, and I can head back to the states.

Actually, it's because you have no history in your country that you drive on the wrong side. You'll find an interesting (if slightly apocryphal) treatise here[^].

Driving on the left is inherently safer. Just think, Half the worlds population drives on the left hand side of the road, so it cannot be wrong. As for it being cold, I am confused. New York is at the same latitude as Madrid, so it is not right to compare temperatures in that way, for if you did you would see that London is much hotter than New York. As for Air Con, well that is just a way of making money. Simply dress appropriately.

I guess a simple comparison of everything with gnihtyreve would have sufficed in telling it isn't so. Is it just me or everything backwards looks Welsh ?!

New York is supposed to hit 72 today. London is supposed to hit 58. The reason isn't important. What's important is that it's cold here :P

By a strange quirk of nature, it is more instinctive to pull to the left when facing oncoming danger. This Chirality has been observed in many species, including ours, so when driving on the left and you approach danger you swerve left. On a British Motorway this means you go to the hard shoulder or verge, wherease in those not so enlightened nations that drive on the wrong side, you swerve into the oncoming traffic. Not Very Safe. On Average London is warmer, New York merely has greater extremes. London rarely gets much below zero, and it is a bigger city, so the heat island effect helps, but on average it is still warmer.

You drive on the wrong side of the road,

Naah - its you who drive on the wrong side of the road. We (and the Brits) drive on the right(which is the left) side of the road. I think I've stirred up a hornet's nest here. :)

Remember that for them that is the right (not wrong) side of the road, this is the problem .
