This sounds like one of those Friday afternoon questions, when we are trying to dodge out of doing work. Heres my theory. I made everything, I created a universe with a bit of memory allocation, however I was running on a 16 bit system and I overflowed the int so it allocated negative memory. Things kind of went out of control from there. I created life and then I created happiness, but to balance out all those happy people I created love - which pretty much put paid to the happiness. :-D Did you really expect a serious answer, Michael Fat bottomed girls You make the rockin' world go round -- Queen
I think Fat Bottomed girls made the rocking universe and that Small Bottomed girls made the Fat Bottomed girls, to feel better about themselves of course. Because of course you would not know if you had a fat bottom or not unless there were other fat and small bottomed girls to compare with... ;P (Playing that song now...) Michael P Butler wrote: This sounds like one of those Friday afternoon questions, when we are trying to dodge out of doing work. hehe, could be, could be, maybe my subconcious is hinting something :) Actually it is just one of those questions I have rattling around in my head and realised I had never tortured my beloved CPians with it. :-D Michael P Butler wrote: I made everything, I created a universe with a bit of memory allocation, however I was running on a 16 bit system and I overflowed the int so it allocated negative memory. Look at the suffering you have caused! Actually a friend tells me the same thing... that we are in some vastly complex Matrix style computer. He reckons that answers my question and does not get that something had to have created the Matrix as well... and something had to have created that which created the Matrix... and so forth. I am reasonably happy with never finding a plausible answer to this question. But I would still like someone to at least try :)

Has anyone ever come up with an explanation of how everything (life, love, the universe etc.) came to be? I get the big bang theories and I get the God made everything theories. What I want to know is what came before all of that and how did that come about? If someone asked me what I thought the scariest question of all time was, this would be it. Can you honestly even begin to explain how all of this *Paul waves his arms around in the air* can be possible?

Kevin Glover wrote: "In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded." LOL! I forgot about that one. Excellent, thanks :) From now on when people ask what I believe when it comes to creation I will simply say: "In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded" :-D

Before: There is no "before" before the beginning of time. The mere concept of "time" goes along with the existance of the universe (be it by big bang, or god sneezing it out). There is a zero. I believe in an imperfect*) "Creator" - who created the world by accident, or just for fun. As much as we cannot "grasp" god, he cannot grasp us (in a similar way quantum physics tend to evade the human mind). He's probably not even aware of our existence. It may have been a god in the classic sense, it may have been aliens, it may have been Daeniken himself, I really don't care. It's most likely inspired by "Solaris" (see next rant) You find quite some creation ideas along the line when reading Lem. Like, in one story he postulates an information-energy equivalent (in the same way E=mc2 describes an mass-energy - equivalent). "So got counted from infinity to zero, and the world was born." Interesting point: The type of informaton doesn't matter. It might have been all rubbish. Looking out of my window, I see a yard, with cobblestones arranged in circles, a bench to sit on, scrubs around it, a tree, bare, naked except for the ivy. I see, I feel a "cration" - be it random, be it by god almighty, be it by intent: It doesn't matter. The beauty of the creation is there, for all of us to see. It's, of course, no answer. But I'm not afraid of the question.

How did he get into a position to be able to create, whether by accident or not, our universe? peterchen wrote: Looking out of my window, I see a yard, with cobblestones arranged in circles, a bench to sit on, scrubs around it, a tree, bare, naked except for the ivy. I have no ulterior motives to wanting to know that fact, other than to be able to put aside this nagging, scary question. Can you explain to me how come you are not scared by the enormity and implacations of this question? Simply not having the potential to understand god, the creator and the "begining" to me is not an answer. I was thinking that even if we remove time from it all that things still involve an action and a reaction.

(again, an idea you find when reading Lem, I'm really surprised right now how many thoughts I consider "fitting" for questions like yours, can be traced back to him. My parents should really have taken more care of what I was reading!) Maybe our thoughts created it: we live in an supporting-each-other scenario, where one bootstrapped the other. Maybe it's an entity, unaware of space, time, everything. An entity that just *is*. Maybe this entity is what ve call "void". Maybe we are this entity, and merely dreaming.

Well, it seems whatever was before 11/18/1970 @ 12:04PM, or Beginning of Time as I call it, is quite irrelevant to me. I can not know how it all came to be. And so I leave it as a mystery. I haven't read this yet, but it looks organized, and so it must have alot of good solid facts. http://www.world-mysteries.com/[^] BW "I'm coming with you! I got you fired, it's the least I can do.
