IE 9

How is it inferior to the 32 bit version? Can you switch between them?

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesJavascript performance in IE9 64-bit is very poor, it does a lot worse than the 32 bit counterpart and other browsers. It's much better than the IE8 one, though. And there's the question of plugins. Like many people say, it's the chicken and the egg problem. 64 bit browser adoption has been slow, so neither they invest so much on this version, nor the plugin makers bother with targeting them. Flash support is in a very early stage, and Microsoft doesn't even really support it. Java, on the other hand, works like a charm, but not many people care about the java plugin these days. As for switching between them, you shouldn't worry. The 64 bit version is barely exposed to you, a link can be found in the start menu, and it can't even be made as your default browser. The 32 bit version should be the same shortcuts as you have used before (desktop, quickbar, taskbar, whatever).

I think I will download IE 9 from the download page rather that the update which said it was going to download the 64 bit version. It didn't mention the 32 bit version. Thank you for the information.

Actually, I forgot to mention: the right version for you to download is the 64 bit one, that bundles both versions. The 32 bit one is for 32 bit Windows only.
Thanks I'll download the 64 bit version.

I love IE9. The only problem that's turned up so far, is that when I log into my online broker account some of the pages don't display. Other than that, it seems quite responsive and renders very nicely.

Do you have any idea why these pages don't render? Flash, silverlight, etc.?

In the last batch of updates available I noticed IE 9 for Windows 7 64bit. I am hesitant to download it until I am sure it is ready for prime time and not just a beta test version being released so that the hoards of unpaid system testers can report problems. What are your experiences with IE 9, especially for Windows 7 64bit?

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesI've used IE since it first came out. This latest release compelled me to switch to FF. They moved the favorites button and you can't move it: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_other/im-left-handed-just-upgraded-to-ie9-how-do-i-move/a867fbb9-7516-46da-bc71-027170a4d037[^] Flash doesn't play in the 64-bit version.

It is much better than previous versions of IE. It will make life better for people who develop corporate intranet applications. But for personal use there really isn't much point. Chrome still outclasses IE. Also, since Chrome is constantly being updated and they don't have to worry about compatibility issues, I doubt IE will ever catch up.
I didn't get any requirements for the signature
I'm waiting to see what they announce for IE10 at Mix. I bet they'll keep their one year cycle. The changes they are proposing to CSS are very encouraging.

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesThere have been a few work related sites that are broken in it, mostly from dodgy development practices, but other then that it's a solid browser. Also, the font rendering on CP is kinda funky.

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesAdding variables and better support for large sites, adding dynamic layout features that work the way you would think right out of the box. Making sure that features are both simple for browsers to implement and use.

No idea. I sent an email to them (zecco.com) and all they could tell me is that it works under FF and IE8. It does.

That is a bit troubling that something that works in IE8 doesn't in IE9.

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesIt's OK, but you may want to use the 32-bit version as its much faster. MS couldn't be bothered to write a 64-bit version of their JavaScript engine, so JS performance is truly awful on IE9 64-bit. (I keep feeling like MS aren't really commited to 64-bit yet - still, at least Chrome is good)

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesI like it (on Vista 32-bit) but printing seems to be broken. It's faster than IE8 and gives me a bit more vertical space, which is nice on a widescreen notebook.
