Welcome from the world beyond 15GB RAM

How do you do that? My work machine is my first over 4GB, at 8GB, and I'm sure Visual Studio isn't using enough of it.

Jeez man, I remember boasting about the size of my RAM about 20 odd years ago, and that was with QEMM! (Am I old or what?)

Yes. Do you remember how to low-level format a RLL or MFM hard drive?

I remember going from 2 Meg RAM to 4 Meg RAM and costing me nearly $300! But that was only 15 years ago. Then I was impressed when my new boss said he just bought a UNIX server with 700 Meg RAM! We thought we were on top of the world!
I have nothing more to say.

:) Works fantastically so far. All 16 gigabeauties of them. ;P
I finally decided of 12 GB RAM for the new PC. I'm looking forward to it immensely. One more week... :-D

At my last gig my dev machine had 16Gigs because I worked with huge databases and .net processes that used 8-20Gigs of memory. That was interesting to say the least. The production servers had up to 128Gigs.

My first 20MB hard drive cost me $700. 1MB of RAM was $1000, and you had to plug all the chips into the motherboard one at a time. If you wanted faster integer math, you had to buy /install a math coprocessor (8081 or 80x87) at $700 a pop - necessary until the 586 chips started to show up

Nice, you got me beat by 4 GB :) I run 4 LCDs, all busy with stuff all the time. Wish I could post a screenshot of my desktop for those who don't see the "need" for so much RAM :)

Mostly for VM's. Nice to allocate 3G here and 4GB there and still have 9 left :) Oh, and Sharepoint 2010 development. 4GB just dont cut it.

I have been doing stuff with it for over a month, and I am still asking myself that question. I think we are using it wrong :) They say Sharepoint is the new Access, perhaps if used that way it is good, but we use it as a glorified web frontend really...

Sharepoint.Intranet.Employer.com is much better than Legacy.Intranet.Employer.com, as I'm reminded every time I have to access something that isn't converted yet; this alone is reason to sing it praise.

I used to sell 16KB of dynamic RAM chips for the Apple II that cost $600. The first terabyte storage unit I ever saw was at the '84(?) Comdex in Chicago and it was the size of two refrigerators (one upright and one on its side) that was basically a jukebox for 12" laserdiscs and cost $1.2 million. I'm looking to be the first on my block with a petabyte online.
