1c platform

I have been PHP-ing for about 5 years now, I am from Mongolia. Our software development standard isn't as high as I'd like it to be. There are almost no C++ developers here, those that are don't really set the bar high, and ignore the rest of the community altogether. So, I'm basically a newbie in the whole software development realm. any new things I see and find amaze me. anyway, currently I'm working on an HR application bought from a Russian company 1c[^], I am not advertising. I just want to share the first look first feelings I have had with this piece of software, and ask what you call something like this. basically the platform is like MS Access, somewhat like Lotus Domino, you can create any application on it, create forms, tables, reports etc. Has its own SQL, and script. I never ever worked with anything like this, it's kind of amazing, to create a software that simplifies the process of creating an application. Then they have created a library to connect the created "application" with ASP.NET. the Database could be anything, meaning you could switch between oracle mysql mssql in a snap, everything created is save in any of the above. What do you call something like this? thanks for reading, PS. if this is the wrong place to post this, I apologize, please move this post.

Not exactly, you can build an ERP solution on 1c platform. I guess it's a platform, but that's too broad of a definition.
ERP are one of those thing that does everything and nothing! For example if you buy SAP it does nothing, but that gives you the opportunity to pay numerous expensive SAP consultant for a long while, so that they could make SAP do something useful for you! At the other end of the scale you can take MS Dynamics which is much simpler to install and provides some functionality out of the box. A train station is where the train stops. A bus station is where the bus stops. On my desk, I have a work station.... _________________________________________________________ My programs never have bugs, they just develop random features.

In my experience you end up paying those expensive SAP consultants before you even buy the software - only time I've known people be charged for pre-sales advice! Imagine if that flowed on to other places.. Me: I wonder if you could help me - I need to buy a laptop salesman: That'll be $50 please Me: Wow - that's cheap - what sort of a laptop is that? salesman: No, sir (smug grin) that's my fee for helping you select one of our laptops today

just to be clear. the HR application/software is built on the 1c platform. There are loads of different applications built on the platform. the applications cost around 500$ while the platform itself is around 5000$. There are numerous developers of those applications, who then sell their products through a network of resellers/representatives/whats-the-word-im-lookin-for. so yea i guess it is an ERP.
