I really don't understand why people are so worked up over Bin Laden getting killed. Yes, I'm glad they nailed him, but in the end, nothing changes - for anyone. The terrorists are still out there and even more determined than ever to wreak havoc, and we are still out here making targets of ourselves. Most people that *I* know? Yeah, I'm comfortable with that. Most people *you* know? If they have the means, yeah - I'm comfortable with that. Most of the people *I* know are equipped, trained, and experienced to react, defend, and even transition to an offensive posture. The people I hang with aren't exactly a "wait till they find us" kind of group.

From what I've seen, their command and control structure is pretty good (they kicked the Russians out of Afghanistan and are doing a pretty good job on the US there as well), and if anyone thinks an order of succession wasn't established immediately after 9/11 are sadly mistaken. There will be little/no effect on their operations, and for all we know, Osama's death may have been the trigger to activate a number of sleeper cells around the world. Call me cynical if you want to...

"Why don't you tie a kerosene-soaked rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass." - Dale Earnhardt, 1997Al Qaeda is an odd one, the best way to look at it is as a fast food franchise: Fancy committing a terrorist atrocity? We'll train you to our standards and you can slap the al-Qaeda stamp of approval on it. That way the cell gets more notariety if they succede, and al-Qaeda looks bigger than it really is. I even heard the view expressed here that al-Qaeda doesn't exist in any meaninful sense, it is more a figurehead organisation. The hope is that with the charismatic [apparently] OBL gone, they'll attract fewer nut-jobs willing to murder in the name of whatever. The problem is, as you correctly point out, there is an increased likeliehood of reprisals in the short term at least.

History about Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden is quite bitter. The orgainzation and the character were created by US government to defeat Russia. Afterwards, nothing happened. Then all of a sudden 9/11 took place. After this incident which was condemed by every society, nothing happened in US. But Afghanistan and Iraq were burnt for searching. The same is happening in Pakistan now.
I really hate to reply on this subject but there are just so many things that are wrong in this post.

Your need to really do research on the history of Ayman al-Zawahiri and Bin Laden. Anyways, nothing happened? Then all of a sudden 9/11? How about the USS Cole and the Embassies bombings? Or the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing? I know it's not Bin Laden in WTC bombing in '93 but it was still a warning about the rise of Radical Islam. I don't want to turn this into a flame war. I just read that his body has been dumped at sea. Now isn't that a convenient coincidence? I would have thought that the Americans would have revelled in showing pictures of their dead archenemy the way it happened with Saddam Hussein and others before him. They sure as hell wouldn't have "buried" him so damn fast... I smell a rat here (and I don't mean Bin Laden)... Maybe it has to do with your point of closure...

Please let me clear a point over here. Islam never asked the followers to kill innocent people of any religon or region. If someone do this, he is not a follower of Islam. Therefore you cant say the rise of Radical Islam but the rise of Radical group

A shotgun by itself won't allow you to "prevent terrorism", but it will allow you to mitigate its effects if it happens to visit you personally (I'm thinking the Mumbai event from a few years ago).

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932Think about it. If we hung him up as a trophy for all to see it would just infuriate more Muslim people and create even more terrorists. We buried him at sea to show the rest of the Muslim world that we respect their religion far more than he ever did. The idea is to show we are respectful professionals in handling this. They think we're still a bunch of crusading barbarians bent on destroying the Muslim world.

The order of magnitude that I gave for Saddam might be as high as 2 million, the most cited figure is 300,000 in peactime.
