So it's my birthday soon & I thought I might treat myself to a tablet. It'd be used mainly at home - for web browsing, maybe book reading, possibly a game or two - oh and for posting on CP of course. I know almost nothing about the tablet market and would be interested in any recommendations (or the opposite) Cheers, m'dears

I should have known better than to ask advice in the lounge I wouldn't mind if even one of your answers had been even slightly amusing - but no, you all took the obvious 'oohh - he said tablet - I'll post some drivel about pills - that'll up my reputaion points' route.:mad::mad::mad::mad: I'll stick to posting puns and info about my latest trip or model painting in future

Well, I've been seriously looking at this[^] tablet. It's been getting good reviews, and it seems pretty impressive - plus it's a lot cheaper than the Galaxy. I do know that I will be an MS fanboy next year and buy a tablet with Win8 installed, but I will do that via the company as we will be developing for it.

Pills can also help you trip better. The model painting does sound interesting. :)

It depends on what you want. If you want the ooohhhh factor for impressing non-techie types, get an iPaid. If you want functionality at a reduced cost, get a Xoom. If, however, you want one that you can put into a jacket pocket and carry around in a useful manner, get the Galaxy Tab. I have a tab, I have loads of apps I am happy with it.

Yeah, I've been checking that one out too... From what I've heard, it has a few technical problems, most of which could be fixed in the firmware... I still have a couple concerns: 1) No RJ-45 on the dock, and USB-to-Ethernet adapters apparently don't work in Android. My company ships me out sometimes, and not every hotel has WiFi (Not planning on using it for work, but I like to stay connected). 2) The keyboard dock has been so hard to find, that I haven't been able to try it out in a store... I've been able to get my hands on the tablet itself (Really cool, by the way), but they never have the keyboard dock... Always out of stock. If not for those two things, I probably would have bought one yesterday, when I was playing with it in a store :)

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

Well, AFAIK it lacks support for it's SD card slot... There are also much better and cheaper options, like the ASUS EEE Transformer or the Acer tablet.

Seated next to us is a team who tests our website on on mobile and tablets. As to their opinion, the Samsung galaxy tab is an excellent option. In their team of 6, nobody recommended the ipad over the galaxy. Personally I won't recommend any apple product for the fact that you'll then be locked to the iworld. It looks shiny and feels nice in the hands though. The galaxy also looks pretty (a little less pretty than the ipad) and the construction quality seems very solid.

Let's just say it isn't KSS.

From a philosphical point of view, in the years since the films, I've had serious problems figuring out if I wanted to or not. The reason? Well I blame cows. Or rather: I blame the clearly either extinct or practically extinct status of cows otuside of the Matrix. This means no steak and no burgers. You expend this out, there's very little bacon or fried chicken and as for fruit and veg, ha you should be so lucky. So I'donly take the red pill if it had enough cow flavour to last me the rest of my life.

You seem to have mistaken the Lounge for dell.com/support. Oh wait, that doesn't exist.
