It hasn't banned it, it has been refused a classification - which is not quite the same thing. The reason being the sexual content, which they apparently fear would contravene the obscene publications act.

Ah, ok. While the US has a rating system, movie producers can decline to have a movie rated. Most chains have a policy against showing movies that are unrated or which have a rating of NC-17 (Not for Children) which makes for an effective ban, but the movie can still be shown publicly. Much more common is for a movie to get a NC-17 rating, be reedited, then get the less restrictive R rating.

It has actually banned it. The film is believed to breach the Obscene Publications Act and therefore has no merit to be allowed distribution. If the producers can shos it is not in breach of the act then it will be distributable but un-classified.

The film hasn't been banned, its been denied classification and the board refused to consider reclassification, no matter what edits were made; "There is little attempt to portray any of the victims in the film as anything other than objects to be brutalised, degraded and mutilated for the amusement and arousal of the central character, as well as for the pleasure of the audience." I am being a little pedantic as the decision effectively means the film is banned as it cannot be distributed or legally supplied anywhere in the UK but technically the BBFC cannot impose a 'ban' per se.

Just reading in todays paper that the British Board of Film Classification has banned the sequel to 'The Human Centipede'. Reading what the first film is about: Mad scientist grafts the mouths of captives to the bottoms of other captives to create a many legged entity that recycles bodily waste. Is this film worth watching or is it just gross filth? Is it scary? (I can't remember the last time a 'horror' film scared me)

It pops up on SyFy from time to time, which right there tells you all you need to know. Having heard about it but not bothered watching it, I watched some of it when I noticed it was on SyFy. Not worth the time. Basically it's a movie that relies on a shocking premise to generate column inches. It didn't do anything for me as a movie. But then, you're talking to the wrong guy. I'm generally not a fan of that kind of stuff. If you're into Gorenography, maybe you might get something from it. Like I always say, it's better to watch a great film twice than a crap film once. Grab a DVD off the shelf, and forget this one. -Richard

If it's fiction, I don't ever see the need to "not classify," which essentially is banning the distribution of the film. Reading the story: It is the Board’s conclusion that the explicit presentation of the central character’s obsessive sexually violent fantasies is in breach of its Classification Guidelines and poses a real, as opposed to a fanciful, risk that harm is likely to be caused to potential viewers. Ah, protecting the public from themselves I see.

Hey, you could end up with hospitals inundated with guys with sandpaper burns in places they shouldn't have if the film ever got out. :laugh: I'm not sure Pete's link to the BBFC ealier passes the KSS rule. Jus treading about what's in the film doesn't seem KSS.

The scariest movie I have ever seen is The Indian in the Cupboard. When the rat jumped out from the floorboards, I nearly had a heart attack (though, I was about 10 at the time).

It did make me laugh how they changed it from Sci-Fi channel to the SyFy channel.... I can only assume people were mispronouncing it as the 'Scivvy' channel.

yeah, there was an old black and white dracula movie that scared the sh1t out of me wen i was a kid. He crawled upside-down, down a wall then turned into mist to seep in through the edges of a window and reformed inside a room.
