It's not about the money, I can afford the extra $6, it's about the percentage jump. I'm getting the same exact service I was getting before, only now it costs 60% more. I understand prices go up, but they don't go up that sharply very frequently. It's not like I'm paying my rent and then I get a notice that my rent is going up 60% in 2 months. I will be exploring other options, but will likely end up staying with Netflix through this price increase, but I will not be sticking around if there is another large jump in price with the next few years.

I see this more as an adjustment of their overall pricing model rather than a price increase. I don't think it was realistic for them to bundle the DVD and streaming stuff together. Sure, as a consumer I enjoyed it, but if they don't have a sustainable model then they'll ultimately go out of business (Blockbuster comes to mind). And tht means I'd lose a service that I currently enjoy.

Yeah, that per-night clause is what makes it not so good.

We don't have any problem with it. It's actually a better deal than getting DVDs from netflix because you don't have to wait for the mail. You could reasonably rent 14 movies in one week, when at the very most, you could only get eight from netflix (if you managed to watch four movies the say day you got them, and IF the post office doesn't somehow trip over itself). Of course, the selection isn't nearly as encompassing, but at least they have the newest stuff that comes out.

Well I have their regular unlimited DVD plan, so I can watch one movie every 3 USPS working days, so 8-9 a month is my maximum, and that assumes I watch the DVD the day I get it and put it back the next morning.

        Regards, Nish

We currently get three on Tuesday, watch one per night, and send them back on Saturday. They received the watched ones on Monday, and mail out the new ones which arrive the next day. Once I fingered out ththe mail latencies, it became easy to schedule. The only time we miss a new release is after a Monday holiday, or if there are more than three new movies released in a given week.

If I already waited until the movie was no longer in theaters, I can wait 2 more weeks to rent it. Redbox ends up costing you more anyways. You must race home from work to not get a late fee and by me there are fucking lines to use the device, even to just return a movie. Add on the round-trip time, twice, and the time waiting in line and the gas used to get there, it costs more. It also freezes in the winter (they keep them outdoors here). No, I don't work for Netflix, but I basically live by it. I hate most network TV here, and use it to find good shit to watch. Netflix is easily 80% of my TV viewing.

We rent movies in the evening, and I return them on the way to work the next morning. We rarely have a redbox movie longer than 12 hours, and at 6am, there's NOBODY waiting to return movies. It's easy for us.

They have Iron-man 2 available for streaming, but Iron-man (the first part) is DVD only. Weird, that!

They used to have it streaming. I've noticed that they only have movies online for a while before they pull them.

Same as John. I return them on my way to work. It also happens that where I meet the vanpool, there are two Redbox machines. So it's easy. I arrive at the vanpool at 6 AM. I get back to my car by 5:15 PM so if I forget to put it in before work or am running late in the morning, I can still make the deadline.

If you know what I mean...and I think you do...

Hulu's the one I don't get. I'm okay with advertising supported media. I grew up with three TV stations and that's how it worked. I got TV for free in exchange for commercials. However, when cable came out, the idea was you could pay a monthly fee to watch stuff without commercials. With Hulu, if you sign up for a paid plan, you still get commercials. If I get commercials, I expect free.

And how many commercial free cable channels are there now? *snerk* :-\ I love my Hulu+ subscription, what can I say? Lately, we're looking at dropping our DirecTV and re-signing with the streaming only Netflix plan... Flynn

Yeah, I dropped Dish (had good experiences with them overall) for Netflix only and cut my bill from $120 to $20. Made sense for me because I realized I never watched anything but movies anyway.

We have a few shows we watch but not really enough to justify the cost. Otherwise we've been pretty happy with DirecTV. We've looked at some of the internet TV programs out there, but most of them are pretty crappy. For now, we're just thinking of making a simple link page on our file/web server to go to the main network sites and call it good. :) Flynn
