In the meantime, I can teach you to discern sarcasm when you see it ;P I worked on a project written in Java. In fact, I started it with a fellow programmer. We worked on it during 1 year and a half. I liked it.

An Andersson (note double s i Andersson) to an Andersson and a swede to a swede, yes Java is as stable as MS C++ and it is good to learn. However, it is slow. Swing is nice but even slower. You can find a lot of Java IDEs, some nice and some slow memoryhogs. However, I had to admit that I am really disappointed on Microsoft VC 6. A quite a lot of annoying bugs not fixed in any of all service packs.

It's a wonderful language, in my opinion, but unless you absolutely need the cross-platform features, don't bother.

The problem with J# is that it doesn't make sense. See, C# is a valid musical note. It could have also been called D flat, they are the same. But J#? The notes only go up to G. :-D Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
I can't remember in which branch of music it was, but some group of people in the past used to use 'H' instead of B-flat, which is closer to J than G is :-). -- Andrew.

If you know C#, you will feel at home with Java, for the syntax. The Java runtime is quite different from .NET. <joke> You will notice that Java borrowed its syntax from C# ;) </joke>

I think the following formula should explain Java from my perspective. Java = (C# - (cool stuff) - performance - RAD - performance - complexity - performance) + ((higher costs) + (deployment headaches) + (higher costs) + (build problems)); I've developed several webs and server side applications in java and recently several webs with C#. Java is a clear step backwards. ed Every time I walk into a singles bar I can hear Mom's wise words: "Don't pick that up, you don't know where it's been!"
