David Wulff wrote: Oh my! It must get a bit embarrassing if you have friends round while you are using the bathroom... Uhm, the bathroom is usually a closed room towards one end of the studio. The kitchen is an unclosed area on one side though. But then you are right. It's a little embarassing to walk out in a towel when all your friends are waiting for you to get ready for the party or some such gathering :-) Nish

Guys This is unbelievable. I think it's just about impossible to find an affordable apartment in Mountain View :-( I just put up this Ad on CraigsList. Can someone give me any suggestions to improve my ad?

_I am looking for a Studio Apartment in Mountain View. The maximum rent I can afford is USD 600 (if lesser, the better). I cannot afford a security deposit but I am prepared to pay 50% of the first month's rent as advance. Essentially I'd like to have a clean Studio (with heater) , a clean bathroom and a tiny kitchen (with at least a refrigerator and a cooking range) It should also be less than a mile from castro street/villa street cross-roads. I don't have a car right now, but I hope parking facility is also available as I intend to buy a car in the near future. I am a Software Engineer (25 yr old male) who landed here only a month ago and I expect to be here for a minimum of two years. If I do move in, it'd probably be around January 2nd week. I don't keep pets, and don't smoke. I do not intend to share the apartment with anyone in future. Thanks_

            Regards, Nish

Hi Nish The key, is to advertise "non-biased" (iow they must think you are nice although they know nothing about you) as said in a previous post. Too many sentences start with the word "I". One thing I will allways remember is what was said by my english teacher, "Never start two consequitive sentences with the same word." (unless you are a poet ;P) Here is the line when I look for new flatmates: "Bedroom available in 2 bedroom flat. Available...". Short, sweet. It lures more interest, as the description is vague, but in the end I maybe get 4 times the calls I would have received specifying more details. Think SQL SELECT * WHERE (). Cheers and good luck. Finding a good place to live is hard. :) WebBoxes - Yet another collapsable control, but it relies on a "graphics server" for dynamic pretty rounded corners, cool arrows and unlimited font support.

Wow Nish, you sure picked one high-priced area to re-settle in. I have a 2800 sq. ft. home and my mortgage is just over $600 a month!! :omg: Mike Mullikin

Thanks for the tips Leppie. This is all pretty new to me. In Trivandrum I had my own house :-( It's the first time in my entire life that I am actually worried about and thinking about money!!! Weird eh? I never knew it, but I was very nearly a rich guy back in Trivandrum (mostly on account of my parents) :-( [sigh] Nish

I hope later on I'll settle in nice and proper :-) Nish

Nish, You may want to try the following sites: www.metrorent.com[^] www.renttech.com[^] If you find an apartment for $600 in the Bay area (Oakland being the exception), you have found a deal. Your best bet is to look for a roomate. Hope this helps Regards, Brandon
