The first sentence was quite funny, because you used the past form of "to be", "war". Of course you could say: "Ich war in Deutschland", but you've been adding another verb to the sentence, "living". Most german verbs don't mix with "to be" like they do in english. You probably wanted to say: "Bevor Sie es vergessen, ich habe mal in Deutschland gelebt." In that case, "living" does correspond with "to have" - "ich habe gelebt", "i have (been) living". There is a form of "to be" in the english sentence, but not in the german version. Of course, you could always use another version of the past, like "Ich lebte in Deutschland." (I lived in Germany). But your german is really cool, because it only does sound a little bit funny (in a totally cool way), and one could still get the meaning. So - great job!
That seems to be a PEBKAC problem, Sir. Why don't you go and fetch a coffee while I handle the operation?
What of 'Ich Bleibst auf Dortmund', would that work? (To be fair I haven't lived in Germany for over 20 years, so I am a bit rusty).

Hmm... that depends on what you really meant. "Bleibst" is the wrong declaration; that one is for "you", not "i" (Du bleibst). If you wanted to say that you will stay in Dortmund, then it would be "Ich bleibe in Dortmund". But hey, that's the Ruhrpott we're talking 'bout - they _do_ have a really funny grammar up there, so every grammar mistake you might made could be easily blamed on the guys in the Ruhrpott.

I am aware of the madness of the Lünenvolk. And Aplerbeck isn't much better. But I got told that when I speak German, it sounds very aristocratic.

Now that webcam is pure torture. I have to sit here and work while I could be there within 20 minutes.

If you going to do Tarzan impersonations shouldn't you wait for Talk Like a Primate Day?
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done. Drink. Get drunk. Fall over - P O'H OK, I will win to day or my name isn't Ethel Crudacre! - DD Ethel Crudacre I cannot live by bread alone. Bacon and ketchup are needed as well. - Trollslayer Have a bit more patience with newbies. Of course some of them act dumb - they're often *students*, for heaven's sake - Terry Pratchett

Ohhh, aristocratic - yeah, that may be. That really depends on how you pronounce the words ;-)

Mei, oa Preiß
"Dark the dark side is. Very dark..." - Yoda ---
"Shut up, Yoda, and just make yourself another toast." - Obi Wan KenobiMore than you would think. My father actually came from "Ostpreußen", which makes me at least a half Preiß. (The other half is Pfälzer, thanks to my mum.)

As far as I recall, you also don't come from Bavaria (Ruhrpott, right?).
