ok I am getting tired of helping people out only to see them take personal claim for my hard work. will it really hurt for you to say - "I was able to get it done with some help from ..." it gets really frustrating sitting in a room with these people as they discuss their code achievements.

Welcome to the real world. Now please get back to work as I need to submit your our code for my article. Thank you.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

Yup, it doth sucketh. On 'the other side' one of my pleasures is receiving praise and turning to the client to say 'It was not me, I am just delivering the great work our devs do.' When things go well, I pass on the praise. When things go badly, I take the shyte for the team.

Bacon and ketchup are needed as well. - Trollslayer Have a bit more patience with newbies. Of course some of them act dumb - they're often *students*, for heaven's sake - Terry Pratchett

I've had managers who do both of those the other way around. And I have resented each one of the sniveling little shits. I've had more who have done it the right way round though. Guess which I worked harder for.

That's the idea. The short term gain of an attaboy from the boss, is worthless compared to the long term benefits of staff who trust you to support them.

I received an e-mail from Mrs Wife earlier. she has to prepare some briefing material for her 'big boss'. As he'll be speaking in English, he asked her to put together a few words for him to say. Said task has been forwarded to me. On an unrelated subject, she is well known as being one of the best English speakers at work.

You might try looking them in the eye, and saying "Wow! That's some awesome code! How ever did you think of that?" If they at least blush, then it may not happen next time. If they don't, then gloves are off - next time steal some code from the interwebs, give it them, and if they don't mention your help, just say "Hey! I think I saw something like that on Code project..."

You got to earn the trust of such people. Then make your move and give them some tips that would surely bomb.
