For my money, Star Trek was the more ground breaking for the time of it's release. It also had more stories than special effects. It had to really - it didn't have a budget the size of Star Wars. Would Star Wars have been made if Star Trek hadn't been so popular? Dunno - most studios won't risk that kind of money on the off chance.

Was the original Star-Trek series (The best one in my opinion) a success: It was after-all cancelled in its fourth year? Anyway, Star-Wars was based on the Kurosawa's movie Hidden Fortress and not on Star-Trek. By the way the budget for episodes of Star-Trek - The Next Generation reached over a million dollars per episode? In the question of Star Wars vs Star-Trek its got to be Star Wars (4-6) as (1-3 were rubbish and I don't consider them to be part of the series). Star-Trek TNG, DSN were rubbish. It was a soap opera that happened to be set in space? Even Babylon 5 was better than Star-Trek!

Neither of them are science fiction. They both require FTL travel, which is impossible, therefore rendering them both within the confines of Fantasy.

If impossible things make it fantasy then there would not be science fiction, it would all be called fantasy. Isn't fantasy more about myth and magic and assigning impossible 'powers' to people and creatures? E.g. 'Heroes' or 'The 4400' is fantasy, ST is science fiction and SW is borderline with this 'force' and all...

Strictly speaking isn't it more along the lines of 'Is science fiction or science fantasy better?'. They are both excellent in very different ways.

Excellent point but aren't both sufficiently advanced technology? One merely presumes to have sufficiently advanced mental capabilities. But even Star Trek has had episodes of super-evolved humans (ie. floating orbs of light) so Id say one is agnostic and one is enlightened. No. It allows for a warp in Space/Time, but not a warp bubble. Once the bubble was established it would cease to exist with our universe of space/time.

Then Star Trek V must be the metric unit for badness. The American unit definitely is named after George Lucas.

In what way is it not ST? You've got Worf and O'Brien transferred from the Enterprise, the Federation, Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans etc.

in the way that it was awful. Pedestrian, hackneyed, sterile and soulless. Shallow characters, dull enemies and pointless plots. DS9 should be deleted from the ST canon.

It's still controversial. There's a lot of room for mistake in this case. In any case, to me "not yet" is just as good of an answer to something deemed impossible.

Also, the Alternative Universe in DS9 is the same AU that Kirk went to in TOS. Their history is badly affected by the influence that Kirk had on their culture whilst he was there. My favourite ST series was 'Enterprise' - shame it was cancelled before the plot lines could be developed. :-O

Yeah, took me a while to get into 'Enterprise' cause it didn't have all the cool technology, but I was really enjoying it be the time it ended.
