Hi all, I'm currently working on a book on Web Programming for a course I'm teaching, and the first draft is already done. I actually used the first draft this spring in the course. However, the book needs reviewers. So the question is: is anyone in here interested? If you are interested, feel free to contact me. The book covers basic topics such as HTML, CSS, HTTP, JavaScript, jQuery, JSON and Ajax, and on the server side I'm covering the basics of C#/.NET, ASP.NET MVC and LINQ. It is currently about 160-170 pages. I'm not really sure if I will "publish" it the traditional way, i.e. printed on paper, but it will definitely be available electronically. I'm not even sure I will sell it, it is based on material freely available on the web, and I simply gave my students a copy. Am I mad for considering not selling it? Regards, Daniel

Depends on how good it is. You could make it nominal fee based, ie 10p (10c, or whatever the local small amount is).

Yes, a colleague of mine suggested I'd sell it on Amazon for a small fee. I'm not sure it would matter that much financially, I don't expect to get rich from it :-) I don't know how good it is, it probably depends on what people expect. It is written for beginners though, as a school textbook. Daniel

At the very least, you should recover the cost you put into it. Since you're not sure how many will sell, X times something is always better than zero.

Nope not yet. I would like to enhance it a bit before I release it, add bits that are missing, explain better parts which should be explained better, remove unnecessary stuff etc. Daniel

Well, the cost is solely my time (and my employers time, i.e. my University).

I'd be happy to help you with some reviewing but my knowledge of web technology is possibly a bit out of date. Educational material is usually worth donating some time to.

careful there, if it was written in part on the universities actual time, then legally they might very likely be entitled to some part of the proceeds. Just something to keep in mind and check for. It would depend on your contract with them and whatnot I would expect.

Let's face it, after Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says WTF! Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

Great, thanks. I'm using Google Docs, so I would simply add you to the review version of the document. Do you have a gmail account? Daniel
