A few years ago I took my daughter on a ferry trip to the Isle of Man. As we had to be on the boat at about 7.30am I said we would breakfast in the restaurant and not at home. When we got there we were told that no breakfast was being served, as the head chef had taken the day off sick, and the assistant, a Muslim, refused to handle the bacon and sausages! WTF! No BACON???????????????? We ended up with tea and toast. NOT HAPPY!

Time to demand en masse a refund, since the ferry company broke the contact, and then get in the kitchen yourself and cook it up! :)

90% of Halal meat in this country comes from animals that have been stunned in exactly the same way as the rest of the meat industry before having their throat cut. There is almost no difference in the production and in the animal welfare.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

I will not eat Halal or Kosher meat. I dislike the ritualised slaughter of animals, if they are going to be killed for table that is fine, but it should be done quickly and humanely, not bled to death with a mystic standing over it sussurating spells and incantations as its life slowly seeps away.

The Islamic way of slaughtering ensures that maximum blood is taken out of the animal's body due to capillary action which makes the meat hygenic for human consumption. It also almost instantaneously cuts down the blood supply to the brain so the brain does not actually feel pain. The suffering of the animal as seen by the observer is not due to pain but due to the capillary action of the blood oozing out of the animal's blood vessels.

Nope, but then I don't believe that slitting an animals throat is any less painful or instant than firing a bolt into its brain in the majority of cases. Stunning isn't guaranteed, and doesn't work as it should in many, many cases.

The non-observant man in that who said "that bit of halibut was good enough for Jehovah" was to be stoned, and Brian and his mother went to the stone seller and bought two points, two flats and a bag of gravel. Never mind, I'll get me coat!
