Stop the Death Penalty ! Not only because it's barbaric, but also because it's irreversible. Executing an innocent is a murder, a crime.

I would not call "justice" a system where all you need to have a death sentence is a policeman, a sleeping lawyer and a plastic bag... But I've to admit that it was working very well, not white nor rich people were harmed. :~ -- Looking for a new screen-saver? Try FOYD: http://digilander.iol.it/FOYD

Obviously, none of you get it. Guilty or not, all death row inmate were commuted. If he has evidence that some may be innocent, he should investigate further and pardon them. But no, this guy has to usurp the justice system that tried them and found them guilty and commute them ALL (even the guilty ones)! There is a man on death row that used to live by us when I was a kid. He tortured and brutally killed his elderly parents (he was adopted) and stuffed them in the trunk of his car. He then drove to Indianapolis where he abandoned the car to let their bodies rot. He was guilty, and he does not deserve a commutation, IMO. But this idiot Governor gave him one, and now I have to feed him (through my tax $) for the rest of his miserable life. Justice is not served.

These men/women have the ability to be pardoned by the executive of the state. If they are innocent, 99% of the time they will be found to be so through the legal system. Our doofus governor decided to commute all sentences regardless of the evidence agaist them. That is a travesty of justice, IMO.

If they are innocent, 99% of the time they will be found to be so through the legal system. 99% is a very low percentage if the remaining 1% get killed. Do you want an hard-drive that stores correctly 99% of your data? Or a car that brakes 99% of the times you need it to stop? And you may be able to recover data or to fix a car that hit a wall for not braking in front of it but, unless you walk on the water and multiply food at request, it's difficult to recover and innocent killed. And I think that also culprit of the worst crimes didn't deserve to be killed. -- Looking for a new screen-saver? Try FOYD: http://digilander.iol.it/FOYD

I certainly think if you murder someone, you should pay for it with your own life. I really can't understand your point. Maybe it's because I live in a catholic country and in a country where death penalty has been used in the past against innocent people by the fascist government... If I killed someone killing me don't resurrect the people I killed. But killing me give me no chances to prove my innocence (and you talked about 99% reliability, but I guess that you don't want to be in the remaining 1%, even if I guess you're not black or hispanic...) and didn't let me any chance to repay the community for my crime. -- Looking for a new screen-saver? What I said is what I believe is right and I don't expect everyone to agree with me. But you must admit that the governor of Illinois has overstepped his legal authority on this issue. Why do we need a judicial system when the governor is going to ignore its rulings?
