Hey guys I did my first major purchase after reaching the US. I bought a laptop. An HP zt1260. P4 1.6 GHz 512 MB DDR 15" XGA DVD/CDRW combo etc... But I have a question. It does not have the ps2 port in the back. is this normal? Will this be a problem if I wanna use an external mouse AND an external keyboard? There are two USB ports. But I dunno how many devices I can connect to an USB port :-( I also bought a laptop bag. Total price came to USD 1256/- Nish

Thanks Matt. So all I need to do is to verify if the mouse is USB supported when I buy one eh? Nish

Just get a MS or Logitech USB mouse, plug it in and wait a few seconds. Voilá, it now works. (If you are running WinXP that is, dunno about drivers for Win2k) You can do the same thing with a USB keyboard. If you need more USB devices, just get an USB hub. You can use up to 128 devices on a single USB root hub. I use a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse on my Compaq Laptop, and it works great :) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

I guess that solves the hard drive problem, doesn't it?:-D USB can support quite a number of devices on a root. I have a MS Internet keyboard that plugs into a USB port, but it in turn provides an additional USB port for other devices, including rodents. Many devices have expansion ports like this so that, by using the product, you don't use up all your available ports. I've gone to find myself. If I should get back before I return, please keep me here.

I am running W2k and the USB mice and keyboards have all worked fine. I do agree with the optical. I have a MS on one and Logitech on a second. Just what ever feels right. One item to remember is if you have USB 2 when you plug any lower level device then all devices on that chain are dropped to the lower level. Never been an issue for me but. Some give you endless hassle, others immediate service. In between are those infuriating ones that will gladly accept the return, but only in exchange for another identical to it (Walmart, for one). I try to ask first what the policy is and , if possible, to get it in writing. I've gone to find myself. If I should get back before I return, please keep me here.

I've seen Dell, HP, IBM, and Compaqs all coming into the shop rampantly for parts. Something always breaks. On the contrary Toshibas only come in if someone has killed Windows, and almost never come in for anything else. So I wouldn’t tout any of the other manufacturers. Toshibas go through anything. Unfortunately the company I work for is in a contract with IBM. :(( If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

You should have got a dell laptop in my opinion. They have got wonderful deals. Checkout http://www.dell.com[^]. You could have saved some money too. The mistakes made in this API make me realise that Microsoft has become big enough that it can shelter morons. When I got mine, we went through and configured one exactly like it at dell and the price went through the roof. I went through and configured everything at Dell Home and Dell Small Business to match the specs of my laptop as close as possible (purchased one month ago, received two weeks ago) an HP ze5155. P4 1.7 (mine is a 1.8) 512MB RAM 40GB HD 15" XGA 10/100 NIC (no built-in wireless) XP Home, WordPerfect suite 32MB Video (nvidia but mine is ati mobile m6) CD-RW/DVD Combo Home gave you a free upgrade to the CD-RW/DVD combo and $100 for ordering online, while SB gave you double memory for free. On the Home site the total came to: $1696 - $100 off online purchase + S/H + tax == $1596 + S/H + tax On the SB site the total came to: $1516 + S/H + tax Mine: $1499 + tax - $300 mail in rebates + 17 day wait  == $1199 + tax on $1499 I *really* wanted to get a dell, but knew that in my past configurations -- I've been looking for 6 months -- I wouldn't beat that end price. If someone just wanted a laptop for web surfing and office work, the day after I ordered mine from Best Buy they had a Toshiba 1.5 celeron, 128MB RAM, 14.1", 20GB laptop for $500 after rebates.
