Just get a MS or Logitech USB mouse, plug it in and wait a few seconds. Voilá, it now works. (If you are running WinXP that is, dunno about drivers for Win2k) You can do the same thing with a USB keyboard. If you need more USB devices, just get an USB hub. You can use up to 128 devices on a single USB root hub. I use a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse on my Compaq Laptop, and it works great :) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

I am running W2k and the USB mice and keyboards have all worked fine. I do agree with the optical. I have a MS on one and Logitech on a second. Just what ever feels right. One item to remember is if you have USB 2 when you plug any lower level device then all devices on that chain are dropped to the lower level. Never been an issue for me but. Hey guys I did my first major purchase after reaching the US. I bought a laptop. An HP zt1260. P4 1.6 GHz 512 MB DDR 15" XGA DVD/CDRW combo etc... But I have a question. It does not have the ps2 port in the back. is this normal? Will this be a problem if I wanna use an external mouse AND an external keyboard? There are two USB ports. But I dunno how many devices I can connect to an USB port :-( I also bought a laptop bag. Total price came to USD 1256/- Nish

You should have got a dell laptop in my opinion. They have got wonderful deals. Checkout http://www.dell.com[^]. You could have saved some money too. Although I'm not fond of HP for a number of reasons, price isn't among them. A Dell would take three weeks to receive, and the shipping would likely eat up any cost savings. Besides, by the time it arrived, they wouldn't offer that model anymore!:-D I've gone to find myself. If I should get back before I return, please keep me here.

That's quite impressive! I know that every desktop I've ever ordered from them has taken a minimum of 3 weeks, some up to 5, but perhaps they do less configuration on a laptop. I hadn't thought about it much, but now that you mention it I can't recall ever being called to repair a Toshiba. Maybe I assumed that no one actually buys them. That's a statistic, though a sample of one is not terribly meaningful, that bears more investigation. A pity about the IBM contract - my condolences. I've never had a reliability problem with IBM, as they are generally well-built workhorses. But in every case I know of the performance delivered by an IBM machine fell far short of most equally priced competitors. And for laptops, that tiny diddlestick in the middle of the keyboard is the sorriest excuse for an input device I've ever seen. I've gone to find myself. If I should get back before I return, please keep me here.

That sounds EXACTLY like my Compaq Presario 1505US (also includes 1 Firewire, 2 USB 2.0, internal LAN and modem). I upgraded my memory 768mb, and I have an external USB mouse for it. USB should be fine for keyboard and mouse. Thanks Matt. So all I need to do is to verify if the mouse is USB supported when I buy one eh? Nish

Yep, I would suggest a logitech optical especially if you are using it with a laptop and won't necessarily have a "mouse ball compliant" surface :) -:suss:Matt Newman / Windows XP Activist:suss:

I hadn't thought about it much, but now that you mention it I can't recall ever being called to repair a Toshiba. Maybe I assumed that no one actually buys them. That's a statistic, though a sample of one is not terribly meaningful, that bears more investigation. A pity about the IBM contract - my condolences. I've never had a reliability problem with IBM, as they are generally well-built workhorses.
