I was thinking about Newman in Jurassic Park and his awesome "ah, ah, ah!" when they entered the wrong password, and then the "I'm a Mac" dude in that movie where he used a Nokia to do everything up to, and possibly including, piloting a space shuttle or something (OK, I may have fallen asleep in that one). What would you say are the best movie depictions of a software developer?

Call me a bluff old traditionalist, but I actually like "Hackers". Substitute "management" for The Plague and "sales" for Agent Richard Gill and I start to relate :) Nick

An old army dude once said words to the effect of "I'll go watch war movies when they start showing soldiers messing their pants when they're getting shot at" So for me, when they start showing coders scratching their heads wondering why the hell things aint working the way they're supposed to and generally looking like they dont have a clue ..... I don't remember that movie very well, but I remember that when I saw it I felt it was the worst movie I had ever seen. Though, Darren Aronofski more than made up for it with The Fountain, which is one of my top 10 favorite movies.

Well your standards should be high, in my opinion (the movie is sketchy and 'experimental', but far better than the average 'sweetened mainstream movie'). I didn't watch "The Fountain" (discorauged by a review, if I remember well. However, I liked "Requiem for a dream").

Get it, it is one of the best time-travel movies I've ever seen, even though it was a low-budget job. It's main drawback was explaining the plot to the wife. Repeatedly.
