Illuminated keyboard i7 or better processor SSD (no spinning drives) don't want "lapstation" (as in, I want something lightweight) I can't seem to find anything like this, except maybe a really high-end Alienware which isn't what I'm looking for. Anyone come across something with the specs above? Marc

Dell XPS 14z. Around 4 lb weight, Core i7, SSD. I am not sure of the illuminated keyboard, but they may upgrade that for you.

      Regards, Nish

Aside from the physics of spinning objects, are SSD's lighter than comparative disc spaced spinners? I would assume they would be quite lighter. When you find this box, let me know... where you keep it at night so I can snatch it.

Hmmm. I was hoping for a laptop, too, of at a least 'C' cup; firm as though in a dream; &etc. How's your search going?

Have a look at LIFEBOOK T901[^] It has a multi touch, bi-directional rotatable display and it isn't to heavy. I have one of it's predecessors, and I found the rotatable display to be a pretty nice feature - especially when I have a lot of stuff that needs reading.

Definitely. It's just memory chips, doesn't need a shock-proof housing, etc. Marc

The SSD's that I've seen are a bit lighter but not by much... so you're not really saving much on weight.

Not really... go look up weight specs... it's not that much lighter... I have both kinds here at work, they're not that much different. You can feel the difference, but it's only about 10-20grams difference (on laptop drives).

Weird, but the Fujitsu website lists all sorts of nice options with regards to processor, memory, hard drive. But the Fujitsu store doesn't even list the i7, and the 64-bit version isn't customizable. WTF? Marc

For some reason, my brain was comparing my snazzy 128GB SSD to the clunky hard drives in my workstation. Yes, laptop drives are a lot lighter. Marc

I've never tried running Windows on a Mac - I basically do a lot of C# development in Visual Studio using a laptop, currently using Oracle as the database. Marc

Windows 7 dual boots wonderfully on Macs. Or you can run Windows in a VM, but if that's your primary environment I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd suggest buying a laptop with all the specs you want minus the SSD. Then buy a top notch SSD and throw away the drive that comes with the laptop. Gives you more control over the final hardware. Not all SSDs are created equal.

Yeah... that's no comparison... 3.5" spinning drives are quite heavy... :)

Windows 7 dual boots wonderfully on Macs. Or you can run Windows in a VM, but if that's your primary environment I wouldn't recommend it.

One of our developers used to do this... he didn't seem to have too much trouble, but he also had other Windows machines that he could switch to if need be.

I believe you, I'm just perplexed. Only thing I can think of is materials used?
