Isn't it better to re-arrange one's *cough* equipment *cough* in the light?

I recently was perusing wikipedia regarding power transmission lines and was surprised to discover that DC is actually favored for certain distance / power requirements. It's fascinating technology, and I learned a lot about the pros and cons of AC vs. DC. There was this interesting book I read years ago about Tesla and his experiments with a "ray gun" - he apparently claims that what is now considered to have been a comet or asteroid exploding somewhere over Russia and flattening several square miles of trees was actually his ray gun test fire in which he had made a miscalculation. Not sure about the validity of any of this, but it was in the book. Apparently the US military seized the equipment and that was the last it was ever heard of. Marc

At least link to the original: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla[^] Ripping off somebody else's content ain't cool. Sounds like something Edison would do. Also Forbes published a critique of this (and managed to correctly identify the source), and Mr. Oats publish a rebuttal here: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/tesla_response[^]

It wasn't just dogs and cats, Edison fucking shocked an Elephant to death as a public display, to show how scary Tesla's AC was. Oh yeah, not to mention the fucking electric chair. That graphic needs to be modified to mention these.

That was then and this is now. As an example the US didn't even have any real child labor laws during Edison's lifetime.

Versus what exactly? You do know what prisons and mental institutions were like during the same time period right?

For that time period it sounds pretty much like business as usual for most businesses and certainly true for the larger ones.

The problem is, he was doing it to create fear of the AC. Public fear mongering.

Do you have any idea what all business was like during that same time period?

Well, it's safe to say neither of us do first hand. I'm going to guess that duels were sometimes involved.

Duels? Not so far as I know/recall. But many practices that are now illegal and are illegal because they occurred during that time period.
