What other head of state could stand in the open air, on a boat, on a river, travelling very slowly, through one of the worlds biggest cities, surrounded by millions of people, enclosed by many tall buildings and not look a tad worried? Well, when I stood out in the cold rain waving, my mom never called me brave or hardy. She always asked if I had enough sense to come in out of the rain. But, to each their own.

It is a family business. And at least when it comes to having a head of state we have a family that are trained and educated in the job. Backed up by professionals with a 1000 years of experience to fall back on. We don't have to elect a president who is so desperate to get the job that he sells his soul to whoever will bankroll the campaign. A lot of countries prefer their system of allowing a man or woman to take temporary control then disappear. We like our system of continuity and history.
