What other head of state could stand in the open air, on a boat, on a river, travelling very slowly, through one of the worlds biggest cities, surrounded by millions of people, enclosed by many tall buildings and not look a tad worried? Gord bless 'er. Obama couldn't do it, nor Putin, Hollande, Jintao etc She is brave, and hardy, it is cold and pouring with rain and she is still standing waving at the crowds.

It is a family business. And at least when it comes to having a head of state we have a family that are trained and educated in the job. Backed up by professionals with a 1000 years of experience to fall back on. We don't have to elect a president who is so desperate to get the job that he sells his soul to whoever will bankroll the campaign. A lot of countries prefer their system of allowing a man or woman to take temporary control then disappear. We like our system of continuity and history.

Pass the bucket! :) Oh come on, a shining example? What, of how to screw up your childrens lives? OK, she stood up in public, she does it a lot, has been for years. In the meantime the Spanish king happily eats out in restaurants on Majorca with his family and people come over and shake his hand....

That is an unfair comparison, since the presidents you are talking about have to actually govern their Countries.

I wouldnt say Africa and Majorca are related in any meaningful way to the extent the one could say an event on one happened before of after an event on the other. :)

I would like to point out that the whole of the £10 million cost was entirely met from private contributions. The security costs were met from the public purse, but I have been advised that the exercise was used a 'dry-run' for security at the Olympics later this summer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Dave. Isn't she just a symbol of your country's past. She has no ruling power anymore, correct?
