Sugar Free

I was always a bit dubious of the many 0% fat food you can find in supermarkets. Quite often they contains a very large amount of sugar, to the point of being the first ingredient in the list. The dogma in England appeared to be that fat make you fat. The word sugar in the contrary carry a rather positive meaning: 'sweet'. Beyond the food industry responsabilities, I wonder how much the weight of the words contributes to the obesity epidermic.
Sugar is what you need to add, to make no fat food edible. The dogma worldwide is that fat makes you fat. I've been reading all about the origins of the idea, but it's wrong.

There's a really good lecture on sugar and our metabolism that really changed my outlook on sugar in my diet (I used to be a sugar addict; now no longer!) Here's the lecture on youtube[^]. Recommended :thumbsup:
Ah yes, I've seen this one. It seems to me like a lot of people are starting to promote this ( or they always have but I'm noticing now that I'm aware of it ).

So, 60 Minutes in the US and in Australia ran two stories recently on the bad effects of eating sugar. I recently bought these[^] books and stopped eating sugar. I lost 10 kg the first month, 6 the second, and am stable at about 87 kg, whereas I was 102 before and slowly growing. Did anyone else see the shows or anything else and do the same ?

You probably more precisely mean that you've stopped eating *added* sugar. I don't think it's possible to cut out all sugar in everything. *meaning sucrose.
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

I use dextrose, which is pure glucose. It's half of sugar, in other words. Still high calorie, but, used sparingly, it's fine, your body knows how to process glucose.

Sugar is the main factor, I am convinced. My second month off sugar was in the US, and I ate sugar, but tried to control it. I still lost weight, so it's possible, even if you're eating out a lot. I eat more fat than I ever did before, especially animal fats, and I am keeping this weight off, no issues.

Yes, I mean fructose, not sugar. And I do eat some fruit still, so you're right in that sense, too.

Pork Chop 175 x 4 = 700 --------------------------- Total (No cereal) = 1728 <-- cut diet for better abdominal definition (three days a week) Total (With cereal) = 2228 <-- gain diet (four days a week) [Got to admit diet extremely boring]

Caesin should be cheese. From Wikipedia: Casein ( /ˈkeɪs.ɪn/ or /ˈkeɪˌsiːn/, from Latin caseus, "cheese") is the name for a family of related phosphoproteins (αS1, αS2, β, κ). These proteins are commonly found in mammalian milk, making up 80% of the proteins in cow milk and between 20% and 45% of the proteins in human milk. Casein has a wide variety of uses, from being a major component of cheese, to use as a food additive, to a binder for safety matches. As a food source, casein supplies amino acids; carbohydrates; and two inorganic elements, calcium and phosphorus.

I gave up all forms of sugar and refined carbs on 5/1/2012. Since that time, with only mild exercise, I've dropped a total of 23 lbs. There are other benefits I've seen too: my skin isn't dry anymore, I don't get headaches (except before the monthly build), I don't get indigestion, and I sleep like a baby. Truly amazing stuff...I doubt I will go back to my old ways. What got me on this was reading Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes. Or, check out his book Why We Get Fat & What To Do About It (basically GC, BC without all the case studies). Amazing stuff. He wrote a controversial article in the NY Times back in 2002 called "What If It's All Been A Big Fat Lie?" in which he showed that fat doesn't necessarily make us that way. Anyone seen/heard about/read anything by Mr. Taubes? I highly recommend at least listening to one of his speeches.

Apparently I am eating below. Also, I skip dressing when i order from Subway. "What's caesin" > Muscle building protein - if you don't want to eat ten pork chops per day and if you still want to gain lean muscle mass, then Caesin = lean protein @ ~120 calories (25g protein) per scope. Taste awful however.

Yes, it will work. As you say, any diet will, so long as you eat less than you use. The point of not eating sugar is that instead of not eating by force of will, you just don't want to.

yes that's why some days I cut out the cereal anyway, following this diet what's occupying my mind most days is the lamb kebab street vendor downstairs ... (something only reserved for the weekend's)

That sounds nice. I'd just eat it if I wanted, I don't count calories at all, I just eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. Doesn't sound earthshattering, but eating no sugar, ever, mean that my appetite control works.

Not sure what your height might be, but I got up to about 95 kg after I quit smoking. I started snacking on nothing but beef jerky and have been stable at 85 kg for the past several years. I'd like to drop a few kg more, but it's not a big deal. I haven't drank soft drinks for over 30 years - never really liked the taste of them. I drink fruit juices, coffee or tea without sugar, fruit juices or just plain water. When I get hungry for a snack, I slowly chew on some sunflower seeds.

I'd like to drop a few kg more, but it's not a big deal. I haven't drank soft drinks for over 30 years - never really liked the taste of them. I drink fruit juices, coffee or tea without sugar, fruit juices or just plain water. When I get hungry for a snack, I slowly chew on some sunflower seeds.
