That sounds nice. I'd just eat it if I wanted, I don't count calories at all, I just eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. Doesn't sound earthshattering, but eating no sugar, ever, mean that my appetite control works.

So, 60 Minutes in the US and in Australia ran two stories recently on the bad effects of eating sugar. I recently bought these[^] books and stopped eating sugar. I lost 10 kg the first month, 6 the second, and am stable at about 87 kg, whereas I was 102 before and slowly growing. Did anyone else see the shows or anything else and do the same ?

Not sure what your height might be, but I got up to about 95 kg after I quit smoking. I started snacking on nothing but beef jerky and have been stable at 85 kg for the past several years. I'd like to drop a few kg more, but it's not a big deal. I haven't drank soft drinks for over 30 years - never really liked the taste of them. I drink fruit juices, coffee or tea without sugar, fruit juices or just plain water. When I get hungry for a snack, I slowly chew on some sunflower seeds.

I am 6 2. Fruit juice has more sugar in it than a lot of soft drinks. I just drink water or milk :-)

Maybe some juices have more, but my wife makes natural fruit juices from oranges, mangos, grapes, apples, peaches, cherries, papayas, etc. - whatever is in season. I lived in South America too long to think about quitting my fruit juice habits! If I die from drinking fruit juices rather than soft drinks, so be it. ;P Oh, BTW, I'm 6 ft even.

Yeah, the fructose is what's bad, and it gets it's name from being in fruit. Fruit juice without added sugar is still probably more sugar than soft drink. Your call :-)

We were walking down the street. I saw a guy with no arms. Calvin waves ( he's not sure how to act if someone is different ). So, Donna tells him not to do that. I said 'it's rude, if he can't wave back'. Turns out there was a midget walking behind this guy and they'd both seen him and not the guy with no hands, so I had a hard time explaining myself...

Nice to see you in the Lounge. I did not read the books but I am living with diabetes, and I can tell you that sugar is the devil. I have lost 35 pounds with 20 left all because I cut out sugar and reduced portion size.

Sugar is what you need to add, to make no fat food edible. The dogma worldwide is that fat makes you fat. I've been reading all about the origins of the idea, but it's wrong.

                              > The dogma worldwide To me it is not the case in France. What I used to hear was 'Calories make you fat'. Calories are in both 'glucids and lipids'

Congratulations Christian, it must feel great to get the weight off. Dr. Robert Lustig, a professor at the University of California at San Francisco put together this video talking about the health issues related to Fructose, and in particular the effects of high fructose corn syrup found in just about everything sweetened these days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM[^] It's a big eye opener. For me, I've basically found the only way I can control my weight is to avoid refined carbohydrates, and that includes sugar. Over the last 6 months I'm down 36lbs and back to a healthy size and weight which feels fantastic. I agree with you about Sugar, particularly in North America they literally put sweeteners in everything and the results are pretty evident. I don't think XBox is causing the obesity problem, I think Coke is. D

I first heard of all this no-sugar stuff from Smitha, who said she got it from you (apparently it was the rage in CodeProject a few months ago). About the same time, CG visits me and tells me he is on the no-sugar diet too. Of course I am happy to hear all this while continuing to consume huge quantities of sugar because of my super-human metabolism. :-D

I eat a "paleo" diet and cutting out sugar is a big part of it. Vegetables and fruits are the biggest source of carbohydrates in my diet.
