I code in binary, so I've removed all the keys except the numeric key pad, backspace, and enter.

My typing skills are as perfect as my coding skills are so I don't need the backspace key either. Just the Enter key.

Recently in a post here someone adviced me to remove that key from my keyboard, and I did it I have been almost a month without that key and I tell you that we dont need that key at all. No more pressing accidentally that key when formating your code or when pressing shift key. give it a try you wont regret.
What's a key? <googles> Oh, apple and MS say we don't need them, so why have you got any at all?

I bought this[^] when ms first started to make them, then after a couple of years, several of the keys (Insert, Delete, Home, End, Page Up/Down, and the arror keys) started to become somewhat unresponsive. So I bought this[^], which drove me nearly insane - I even started to use Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V. Now I use this[^], and once more I'm able to type while holding the phone with my left hand.

I got something like this[^] probably since my first computer somewhere in the late 90's. I've cleaned the whole thing only a few months ago and it still looks shiny and works fine :D Sometimes (like a few days every couple of months?) the space key becomes a bit unresponsive, but somehow that always fixes itself... No fancy curved keyboards for me, just plain and simple and working ;)

Hmmm, I never actually thought about how little I use the Caps Lock key. I used to remove the three Windows keys because accidentally hitting them is a real pain in the neck and I rarely use them anyway. Soren Madsen
I use them very frequently: WinKey + D for the desktop WinKey + L for locking my PC WinKey + Shift + Left or Right to move windows across screens Winkey + Tab because it looks cool :)

> ... I used to remove the three Windows keys because accidentally hitting them > is a real pain in the neck and I rarely use them anyway. Soren Madsen I wrote an application called Typecase, which is like Character Map but with a much bigger and clearer display, and it uses the Windows menu key to select between the 256 levels of the Unicode character set.

I see. I forget about that one, I've never used it, never noticeably hit it on accident...and in fact the keyboard I'm on right now doesn't even have it. Guess keyboard makers have realized that many people feel the same way about it I guess...(your comment brings up a good point: does it even have a common name? )

Why don't 'modern' Word Processors (and editors) have a Change Case command to flip text written with Caps Lock on? Many still have a Change To Uppercase / Change To Lowercase command. The last Word Processor that I used that had a Change Case command out-of-the-box was TASWORD (pre PC days). I did write a macro for it when I had Word 6 (Office 97), but haven't bother recreating it for later versions of Word.

It does have the keys in the right positions - now take a close look at this[^] and tell me how to press the insert key. Then try to figure out how to press Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert ;)

What moron thought it was a good idea to remove the Insert key?

I call it the stub key because it looks like the end of a cigarette with the ash just about to fall off.

you know that word has it right? even word 6... and it's right in the menu bar... (in the ribbon it's less easy to find, but it's there...)

I have it as backspace...following the intended colemak layout. Kinda need a programmer version of colemak {[}] are in default positions which just feels inefficient...

I love my portable neural interface device, but I find that sometimes my unconscious thoughts accidentally slip out without me noticing the itchy rash on my left bum cheek has been bothering me ever since that Thai hooker who turned out to be part-woman-all-man. Eh, what was the question again? :)

I honestly don't know why that key exists, it only causes annoyances... Luckily, most keyboards now have a dip in the side of the caps lock key where it borders the A key so you can't hit it when you hit the A key. And since my pinky is usually on shift anyways, I don't often hit it accidentally in that case. I do miss Tab on occasion though...

I do miss Tab on occasion though...Why would you ever want to get rid of a key on your keyboard, when you can remap it to something useful - maybe a hotkey to bring up some menu of handy text functions? An easily-reachable hotkey that doesn't require you to press some combination of ctrl-win-rshift-F12... priceless

I write my assembler code in uppercase, so I need caps lock.

Being this a programming forum I can't unerstand why haven't you created a small app that would allow you to deactivate the caps key. then, depending on your needs you could activate or deactivate the normal behavior.
