It's quite relevant to the title or the OP; but more-so the justice system of the country where these scientists were convicted.

Errm, no it's not. There was absolutely sod all to do with religion in the verdict, the article or even the case itself. By all means, trash peado (not pedo - that's to do with feet) priests in the Soapbox, but keep the lounge free from it.

Really? Is there any proof that those people who lost there lives would have done something different and therefore would not have lost their lives? Chances are even if they had done something different some of them would have lost their lives anyway. Stupid ruling. The science is inexact.

Very true, but they did not bother to explain that, they merely claimed that there was no risk.

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

Meanwhile you start a UK vs. US spelling debate? Please, now that is the new Godwin's Law.

FEMA did a lot of things wrong during Katrina, including suspending the 2nd Amendment.

My point was that people were warned DAYS in advance. FEMA should never have been an issue if people just listened to the warnings and got out of there. Its a troubling trend that people are becoming more and more reliant on government. Self reliant people got out of there, were safe, and dealt with their flood insurance to rebuild their houses.

I agree with your point. It is, however, FEMA's job to deal with whatever happens, people listening or not, and dealing with lawlessness by confiscating guns is IMO criminal.

I bow to your expertise on the terminology. The reason I don't think it's a topic for the lounge is that it's a one that can quickly degenerate beyond what is acceptable here. The soapbox is the perfect place for us to riff on these priests, not the lounge. And I stand by my main point that it has absolutely sod all to do with the topic at hand.

It had nothing to do with a UK v US spelling - pedo means foot to me (as in pedometer), but that's probably prevalent with me being a Talipes sufferer. And it would be a greek spelling debate if you want to get technical because pedo is derived from greek in both of those cases.

You can't let it go? It is just another UK vs. US spelling debate. You're wrong anyways, ped means child in Greek, as in pediatrician. pedo means ground or soil in Greek (not the root of what we are talking about). ped as in foot comes from Latin ped, for foot.
