      I did see it. They are wasting money / pocketing (corruption) while the people are starving etc...the masses vote for them...nothing we can do.

            Depends where the money went. If it was used to keep a lot of people in full-time employment for an extended period, then it's tax money well spent. I don't think I'm being too cynical in believing that that's not the case, though.

              The definition of "job creation" shouldn't involve having people employed by the state, but rather to stimulate the local economy to favor job creation in the private sector. So no, if it kept people in full-time state employment, for doing nothing, I (respectfully) disagree :)

Our website www.italia.it[^] (now it has been changed) took the same amount of time (3 years 2004-2007) but since "Italians do it better" we paid 45.000.000 € (yes, fortyfivemillionsofeuro). Then an uprising forced the managers to redo from the ground up in a more modern style ...

                          There must be some fraud or corruption charges that can be applied in a case like that. It's actually a decent-ish outcome, but no way is the real cost anywhere near that – it's been inflated by maybe 3 orders of magnitude (definitely at least 2).

                                Realistically, yeah, I see sites like that go for about $10k-$100k. Depends on how much content had to be created be the company that built it.
