Is there anybody who just craves or is "addicted to coffee" as a software developer, computer/system programmer or just plain "programmer." For instance, you may pause a project briefly just to brew and sip a cup of Joe. Like you cannot live or cannot survive a day without thinking about having a craving of this drug?

Simple Thanks and Regards, Brandon T. H. Programming in C and C++ now, now developing applications, services and drivers (and maybe some kernel modules...psst kernel-mode drivers...psst). At previous jobs, I just slept as much as I needed and would be good to go for the day (at one job, there was a nap room for when you didn't get enough sleep overnight). At my current job, I can never seem to sleep enough. I prefer 9.5 hours of sleep a night, but usually get about 5-7. Most days, I drink half a cup of coffee in the morning, a 5-Hour Energy after lunch, and sometimes green tea in the afternoon (all of those have caffeine, except I sometimes have decaf tea when I'm not tired). On days I only get 4-6 hours of sleep, it's a full cup of coffee for me, and more tea in the afternoon. One of my coworkers used to drink coffee instead of water, but not so much anymore (a recovering caffeineaholic). And I was just troubleshooting something with another coworker, and he went to grab some coffee while Azure took a few minutes to setup a VM.

I used to have eight large mugs of coffee during a day. Plus tea (English style, hot, not Earl Grey) with breakfast and for supper. I have cut down (gradually) and now managed on 2 large mugs a day (AM & PM) plus the aforementioned tea as usual. I think I am at a relatively healthy level now. Caffeine doesn't stop me sleeping and doesn't seem to give me a boost either. However, if I don't have at least a little I get headaches and feel like carp until I have a cup (tea or coffee).

I do a great many things at night, except for sleep, much as I might try. Sometimes I'm coding something. Sometimes I'm watching a show or movie. Sometimes I'm reading. Sometimes I'm web surfing. Sometimes I'm laying in bed, for hours in a row, wishing I could will myself to sleep.

            Fight Club:

When you have insomnia, you're never really asleep and you're never really awake.

I can sleep, I swear. Just not on an 8-5 work schedule. :sigh:

I appear to be allergic to coffee (i.e. I get violently ill when I drink it), so I stay far away from the stuff. When I need to wake up, I eat an apple or two (or three or four or five). And no jokes about Apple Computer Products, comprehende? Apple Computer products are overpriced, over hyped, and over exaggerated. And they turn people into brain-dead zombies that they (Apple Computer, Inc) will eventually release upon the world.

Well - I can life without coffee. But the less coffee I drink the more ciggies I smoke. And more important than coffee and ciggies is music - I almost die if I forget my headphones at home. Once they broke in the morning after about one hour working. A painful experience.

If You mean Joe, then yes. I make a pot when I wake up (5 AM). Then on my way to work I stop and have a 24 oz. cup. Then by 9 AM I have another. Not an addict though!

I had a pair of headphones break on me yesterday. As I was putting them on, they rudely snapped in half and hit me in the head. That was a painful experience. Luckily, those were my "listen to something on my work computer" pair, not my "listen to music" pair.

That confirms it. Somebody restrain this man while I give him an injection to medically induce a coma while his body goes through withdrawal. If we make him do it awake, he'll go insane and hang himself with his own straitjacket.

A programmer is a device for converting coffee to code.

Inject? Isn't that dangerous, does your body have to chemically break it down, or it will kill you by poisoning.

Not simple Inject, It's Dependency Injection :)

If You mean Joe, then yes. I make a pot when I wake up (5 AM). Then on my way to work I stop and have a 24 oz. cup. Then by 9 AM I have another. Not an addict though!

Wouldn't coffee or generally drugs be a kernel driver, since it affects your system. Drugs to humans like Drivers to machines.
