She put us in the safe hands of the bankers and city slickers, and the media tycoons with impeccable morals such as Rupert Murdoch and Conrad Black.

No, Gordon Brown's 'light touch regulation' did that. You might like to read the cabinet papers from 1979, when Britain became the first ever European country to take a loan from the IMF - £3.9Bn. I particularly draw your attention to the late November and early December memoranda, where the cabinet is doing a perfect imitation of a coop of headless chickens, and admitted that the 1974 'economic' policy had totally failed. The papers, originally top secret, have been declassified. It was this that ruined British industry, and Thatcher had to put it right.

As a rule I try not to offer opinions about other nation's politics or government but I'll make an exception here. I always liked Maggie.

While I do think she was the last real man who occupied the role of PM, I don't believe she was the greatest PM. You belittle the nodding dog with this; "Oh Yes".

Appears to be recommending a socialist-style distribution of wealth, that's all.

Weak. It's probably a fair assumption that industrialized countries are contributing more to the problem so expecting them to contribute more to the solution is only fair.

I graduated in 1980 with a science degree, but it took me until 1985 to find anything other than bar work. Whe I did get a job, I joined a government department and then spent years where my skills and commitment were denigrated by our lords and masters (and mistress), telling us how poor we were compared to the private sector. I was then sold of to this wonderful private sector, where I found that we were at least the equal, and in many cases better than them.

It's always been the same - what makes you any different from any of the youngsters I know during Blair/Brown who couldn't get work and whose skills and degrees became virtually worthless? Was that still Thatcher's fault? No one forced you into government and no one forced you to stay. Everyone has choices: it's up to the individual to follow through and take charge of their own life.

Assuming that 'Greenhouse Gas' emissions are the primary cause of the current climate change, it would be reasonable to assert that the industrialized countries were contributing more to the problem.
Mike Mullikin wrote:

A truly democratic decision to introduce practical changes to our societies that mitigate our future impact upon the climate (again, assuming that our emissions are the primary cause), that would be fair. Retrospective penalization of citizens for having the temerity to enjoy the benefits their society offers, that would not be fair. (No one could tell us in 1989 - and no one can tell us today - what the regional effects of climate change might be. Currently, many severe weather events are described as 'unprecedented', and attributed to 'Climate Change' or 'Global Warming', until found in historical, but not necessarily scientific, records. In countries with little recorded history, such 'unprecedented' events would be almost automatically confirmed as due to man-made climate change. Open-ended entitlement. They would very soon run out of other people's money.)

Nobody asked me to join a government department but they sure did force me to leave it - we were auctioned off like slaves to a foreign company and were lucky to keep any of our contractual terms and conditions, as the government tried every trick in the book to disregard the laws of the land that applied in such circumstances. Luckily we had a trade union that was prepared to stand up for its members.

Bit melodramatic. You could have left and got another job. Quit moaning. I've been involved in 2 or 3 hostile buyouts over the years and I did what suited me, not them. If you leave your fate in someone else's hands you deserve whatever you get.
