I've noticed exactly the same pattern as you.

You do understand that they will be rebuilt and it's likely no one will ever know/see the difference so you will be free to practice your onanism unfettered? I admire her bravery all the more so for having the courage to make it public. I know you're trying to be funny but it's just not working for me.

My wife is currently battling breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy rather than a mastectomy, just finished chemotherapy with radiation therapy starting in the coming weeks. This morning when we saw Angelina's story on the news she made some comment about "I wonder how Brad feels about someone taking a knife to those puppies." So rest assured, not everyone (even someone who is currently seeing it first hand) is so uptight. Just to give you an idea of her mindset - she has a t-shirt that reads "Cancer - You picked the wrong bitch!".

Flip a coin. Heads? The Lounge laughs at your insensitive joke. Tails? The Lounge turns out to be filled with moralfags and white knights and your joke is condemned. I have been unable to find a model that predicts the outcome any more accurately, and the fact that the same joke can evoke both behaviors if it is used multiple times appears to suggest that an element of randomness really is involved. Further study: determine the relative probabilities.

Isn't this the behaviour of any group? a) Well liked people get more slack than non-well liked ones b) Regulars get more slack than non regulars c) Anyone who has a history of being a dick has little slack d) People from backgrounds differing to a sort of average for the the normal group get less slack, compounded by the fact such people are more likely to transgress the norms of the group. e) Newbies have a weird place: a certain amount will be tolerated, but less so than groups a & b. Consistent violation will be spanked harder and faster than other groups once the toleration is used up. Acceptance takes time. I think you'll find after you pass it through the system, you'll get equally good results as flipping a coin.

After Brad Pitt has come on your tits there is nothing left for them to achieve. It should be like Deal or No Deal (do you have that over there?), they keep her tits going somewhere and see when the cancer would have kicked in, if at all. Did she have the surgery unnecessarily, or ten years too early, or did she call it just right.

Well done summary. To complicate the model I'd like to add that this forum isn't having one normal group, but several. Roughly divided into different time zones, or rather the major contributing countries in the time zones. To even further complicating the model, one have to think of the fact that some of these groups interact better than others. One group interacted so bad it had to get it's own forum.

That said, I've lost my patience with people who selectively filter offenses - usually in such a way that let's them wrap themselves in a mantle of 'caring' and 'tolerance'. Meanwhile, I read things on this forum every day that I could choose to find offensive but I realize it's The Lounge and nobody means to offend. To say, 'I don't believe your post is funny.' is one thing. To begin making judgments about the kind of person I am crosses the line. This isn't a breast cancer survivor's forum.

Perhaps you need to get out more? Most humor is offensive to some people. And not just 60% but more like 99.999%. A significant amount of humor is offensive to a lot of people. And the term "shock jock" originated with comedy for that very reason. One can only just ignore it and move on. Or move to a country where the government is willing to curtail anything that offends.

Exactly. And this is precisely the difference between someone who has the opportunity to take a preventative mastectomy and those who have had to have a radical mastectomy to remove cancer... I still think it would be an insanely difficult decision to come to, but given that the scars and results are not that dissimilar to someone who has simply had breast augmentation, vs having no breasts at all and a massive scar, it's still not such a bad outcome for her.

They can still be rebuilt. I'm not sure if they still do this but the idea is to take a flap of skin from the back and fold it through to create a new breast. If possible, the nipple is preserved and placed onto the new breast whilst the scar at the back is not really noticeable. Once complete it looks very good.

Yes, I'm aware of this... however there is still a distinct difference between essentially having the insides scooped out and replaced with implants, and having the whole thing lopped off and replaced with a flap of skin and a tattooed nipple... There are still plenty of people out there who haven't even been able to have the reconstruction, which is simply terrible. As I said earlier, she is still very brave for making that decision, and if nothing else, it has caused a large number of women to go for mammograms...

I was under the impression that this is always offered if possible and they always try to save the nipple. Regardless of the outcome either is better than the alternative.

I think it's getting better every year in terms of treatment options, however pretty much all the women I know who have had a radical mastectomy have not had such positive outcomes from a reconstruction point of view, although most of them have gone into remission, which of course is the most important thing...
