Laid Off
-
Geetings all. I was recently laid off from my job and I'm looking for my next gig. I'm looking for entry/junior level roles in C# ASP.NET and T-SQL. I also have some skill with Java, HTML, CSS and Javascript. I currently live in Raleigh, NC and would prefer opportunities here (i.e. Research Triangle Park); but I'm willing to relocate if relocation expenses are covered. Please drop me line if you know of any opportunities. Thanks.

One question: why laid off?

Please don't take this the wrong way (I'm just trying to understand why you're asking), but is that really relevant? Whether the reason is cutbacks, the company closing or any other reason, I still need a new job.

Yeah, but it seems like the economy is turning around. I just completed courses Java, so I have that under my belt; and I'm gearing up to add some more demos (showcasing my Java skills) to my CV website. I've got my resume out to a few sites and I'm working with a few recruiters. I just wanted to reach out here and see if anyone has hear of any opportunities for junior devs. :)

If you are asking for assistance in finding a job, the reason becomes relavent. Future employers will want to know why you were laid off; perhaps people here on CP are those future employers. They don't want to expend effort if you are not forthcoming with them.

Absolutely. If you were laid off for misconduct of some sort there's no way I would help you, unless I knew you personally and were a friend.

It's still gonna be a question in the heads of whoever will interview you. I don't think it's relevant here, but since you will probably have to answer it anyways, wouldn't it be better to tell us here, where you are less prone to be judged? plus we could help you work out on your answer, or at the very least provide our own experiences.

That sounds exactly like the kind of thing all those annoying recruiters keep approaching me with (despite none of those terms appearing on my CV). Have you tried turning it off and on again contacting a recruiting agency?

True, "laid" is actually a way to get a job, not to be fired.

You too? Since I started a LinkedIn account I get quite a few of those. None less than 200 miles from home yet though...which is a bit of a comute.

talk to any recruiting agency in the Triangle area. based on the number of unsolicited job postings i get from them, there must be hundreds of such jobs in the area right now.

True. But people use the terms interchangeably so often.

It will be a question and discussion between the candidate and its future employer, it not my business on a public forum to know that.

True. But still I have known people who were laid off but that was only because the company had been waiting for an excuse. They would have liked to fire them but certain situations made that sensitive so they waited for a time when they could just lay them off.
