Which is the best tool to draw 2D toons like cartoons, comics? Like this?[^] The entire world of 2D runs on Adobe illustrator or any other free tool is there. (To create like the above one)

Starting to think people post kid pics in their profiles because that was the last time they were cute - Jeremy.

Inkscape[^] and GIMP[^] are my all time fav... You need tools like a Wacom Bamboo stick or a touch screen and a stylus if you wanna look professional. I just cant see how to draw perfectly with my mouse X|

just "single" drawings or animation? Photoshop/Illustrator are probably the best ones right now. GIMP is not too bad, and it is free. You need a graphical tablet (intuos). If you want to do animation: ToobBoom Studio[^]

Just single drawing - but not just sketches. Sketches- I'm managing to do with PhotoShop or GIMP. But the kind of coloring and shading techniques, I'm just trying hard with PS but falling short of a professional look. Like for example, Check this[^] I can replicate this through a sketch, but the color & shading. Don't know how they do it. Which tool might've been used to create an image like above sample?

I think some computer graphic artists do indeed use paper and pencil then scan the result. They then use some clever software that is able to draw a path from the scanned drawing. I don't know of any tools - I have just seen videos in the past of the guys at Pixar doing something like that. They then fill things in via the software.

Yeah. Hasn't been that uncommon in the past if I'm correctly informed. They did just some polishing of the drawings on the computer.

They will do the sketching on paper and scan the outline; most of the coloring is now down in software. When the image is scanned, it is still a bitmap (tiff, ... ), the image needs to be cleaned up and vectorized (to be used in illustrator for example ).

For free I'd take a look at inkscape[^] In my experience the learning curve is high (but I am a complete noob to the world of vectors) but the results are far better than with any bitmap editor I've used.
