I'm not sure what to be more apalled by, Judge Powertrip's abuse of her authority; or the baby-mommy's stupidity.

We should be cautious when judging other people for their culture. There were very influential people with names that you would think horrible, but other might for some reason find suiting. An example can be Nur-a-Din which means
"The fire of hell":mad: (quite a name), he was however an Arab lord, his direct successor was Saladin who humiliated the crusaders in the battle where he took Jerusalem. I wonder what his mother called him when he was little...It is a paradox that paradoxes would actually exist in reality. That means of course that they don't exist. However, they do!

Nope, That is indeed what Wikipedia says, so I can understand the feeling you have of it's certainty... :sigh: of course someone wanted his name to sound nicer, which is ... nice. I prefer the truth though. Nur is either Light or Fire. Din means Judgement or Hell. * Further info: Actuall Din is hard to translate to English, there is no word for it. Din means that a person will confront the consequences of his actions, it means that every little thing we do is being noticed, written down, stored on the divine hard drives, so that when the person completes his role and proceeds, he will then be confronted with all his actions and choices, and of course bear the ultimate judgement.

Baby mommy's stupidity, the judge is trying to save the poor kid from its parents idiocy. Actually sound like both parents should have been sterilised at birth, how can you possibly get into the position where you are in court to decide the brats last name, idiots the pair of them!

In the Arabic language, the words for light and fire are completely seperate. Nur = light Nar = fire In addition the word, Din means Religion. So I'm guessing Wikipedia thought it sounded cooler or something :laugh:

Din is sometimes used as "religion" however it does not mean religion. The reason is that Din basically means Judgement, and the word Religion in arabic (and hebrew) has the meaning of "a set of rules one must follow" hence the close connection with the word Din

That's true, however, in this case, it's meant as religion or faith. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nur_al-Din_(disambiguation)[^] It's actually a very common practice in Arabic names and surnames (SomeGoodAdjective or Noun - El Din. For example, Ez el Din, Sayf el Din...) :)

In fact to quote from the item: "The boy's parents were in court because they could not agree on the child's last name" It was the judge who overstepped her jurisdiction by meddling in other matters. The separation of church and state is also a very valuable concept.

Yes, we are allowed, we are also allowed to judge this woman's idea of a name as stupidity. We are allowed to be as arrogant as we wish. I don't think there is a right or wrong here, I just don't think its very nice.

I suggest you carefully read the original post and the link because you seem to have missed the entire point. It has nothing to do with a chosen name at all. The stupidity is that these two people could not agree on a SECOND name. That's how this began. Now the judge jumped in and messed with the given name which happens to be a popular name today. If she had the jurisdiction to do that then she should be chasing up thousands of others.
