I don't think there was a judgement of this kind implied in the original post. In fact to quote from the item: "The boy's parents were in court because they could not agree on the child's last name" It was the judge who overstepped her jurisdiction by meddling in other matters. The separation of church and state is also a very valuable concept.

You are right, it was not implied, it was LOUD ON THE TABLE:

It is a paradox that paradoxes would actually exist in reality. That means of course that they don't exist. However, they do!

Does the judge oppose parents naming their kids Jesus, Moses, or Mohammed?

Well actually I can't see how your reply to me does anything to support your original statement or to refute mine. There has never been any cultural judgement implied. We are allowed to talk about abuse of authority and human stupidity are we not?

Yes, we are allowed, we are also allowed to judge this woman's idea of a name as stupidity. We are allowed to be as arrogant as we wish. I don't think there is a right or wrong here, I just don't think its very nice.

I suggest you carefully read the original post and the link because you seem to have missed the entire point. It has nothing to do with a chosen name at all. The stupidity is that these two people could not agree on a SECOND name. That's how this began. Now the judge jumped in and messed with the given name which happens to be a popular name today. If she had the jurisdiction to do that then she should be chasing up thousands of others.

Well, I've read it, the second name change it the side story. The item is that when the judge heard the undisputed first name, she ordered it to be changed too, because she said that this name should be reserved to who she believes it should be reserved to. Now, Dan stated that woman is stupid, and I commented that judging someone for the name choice is not very nice. Not sure what you understood, but anyway, this is a far longer thread ;)

We should be cautious when judging other people for their culture. There were very influential people with names that you would think horrible, but other might for some reason find suiting. An example can be Nur-a-Din which means
"The fire of hell"

I wonder what his mother called him when he was little...It is a paradox that paradoxes would actually exist in reality. That means of course that they don't exist. However, they do!

Is that his real name? I thought those military leaders took a scary-sounding name deliberately for their command. After reading the subthread about 'din', is it not that the 'judgement' refers to what he's expected to deliver to his enemies?

Aye, only enemies :) (not sure how stable is the list of his enemies though)

Well I can see that there are two possible interpretations. I choose to take one and you the other. I think I am happy to observe a truce.

I stated she was stupid for saying Messiah was a unique name. I didn't say she was stupid for naming her kid that. I don't think it's a good choice, but the cow-orker of mine who named her kid gunner is probably inflicting her kid with a lot more baggage. Even if the local schools never adopt a zero intelligence policy and expel him over it, anyone seeing that on an application/resume/etc is probably going to think it a prank submission, and even if they know better my gut feeling is a number of anti-gun types will circular file it anyway because they decide it's icky. :sigh:
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. Nur-a-Din does not mean the fire of hell it means the glow of relegion :)

He's missing an opportunity here. He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy.
