Just wrote out a cheque for £8088 Looked up wistfully and sighed. The whiskerless youth enquired what was up and I told him the value of the cheque and how I used to use 8088's and what a great little chip it was for the time. Unimpressed, he shrugged and said "Never 'eard of it". O Tempora O Mores

I had an 8088 machine too, but something else sticks in my mind. Many ... many years ago, our office was putting together a group purchase of 486 motherboards. I was waffling on spending the money. That Sunday, the opening hymn was on page 486. That made up my mind! I was on a mission from GOD!!! And besides $486 is cheaper unless you get pick and demand $80486 !!! Footnote: There was a reason the boards were cheap... flaky DMA made the floppy drive useless. After putting up with non-sense for years I gave the POS away with the provision that it never be sold... which it was  !!! The cows came home when the buyer complained to me about the board and I filled him in on the truth!!!
