I could never remember if it was :x or :q that did "save and exit" and inevitably got it wrong. :swearlots at that point.

Maybe, but you could definitely run a very big telescope! When I was working for the RGO one of the developers wrote a control system using Emacs as the front end.

In that case, find the button on the case with overlapping "1" and "0" characters. Then either press (if a momentary switch) or flip (if a toggle) it.

There're physical power lines between the grid and the building. Borrow a backhoe to disconnect them. You can do the same for the connection to the sites emergency generator. This will trigger a reboot as soon as the mainframe's UPS dies. If the site has a generator this will probably only take a few minutes since the generator would be the primary backup. Sheesh! Why are you making this so difficult? :-\

switch to using the terminal next to it - your session will time out in half an hour. When that happens vi will be closed. Or you could call the operators and tell them your session has been disconnected - can they kill it
