South Africa is a bit of a paradox most of the time. Infrastructure, business, economics, goods, cities etc. are all very westernised. Apart from the tube London has virtually nothing that Cape Town or Joburg does not. That is because of apartheid where 5million whites ruled 40million non-whites. The whites came mainly from Europe and so have European ways (even though the Dutch (Afrikaans) are quite different to us English whites.) Now things have changed. The majority is aboriginal Africans, blacks. Then there is a big sector of coloureds (a race formed from whites sleeping with blacks.) Also plenty of Indians and Malays. Not that many Arabs, but some. Religion wise it is either Christianity or Islam. The Muslims are rather vocal. Christianity is obviously related to western ways, and since most South Africans don't like the yanks or poms very much they naturally side with the ME and the East. Also remember our president and former president are great pals with the likes of Gadafi and other fun characters. Anyway so the plan is to get rid of depending on the west for news. Unfortunatley without the western media there is very few alternatives. Obviously far east stuff is worthless here. So it falls to the ME. Aljazeera. They had a trial run the other night. It was horrific. Had a chap speaking in Arabic or whatever with subtitles in another Arab language. Then they had a voice over of some Arab translating the Arabic into English. But it was a horrendous translation, understood about 1/3 of what he said. I think the plan is to switch to BBC, yay!, and Aljazeera, sigh, in a 50/50 split.

The Iraqi regime has plenty of viciously killed civilians to photograph and present to the world. Most of them were killed by Sadaam before this or any other war. I am not shocked or disgusted by these pictures, I am angered by them. These pictures are being presented as evidence of the atrocity of the US against the Iraqi people with absolutely no objectivity. I can appreciate other people’s views and opinions, but when you show no objectivity or even concern for others and try to push your twisted view of the world on others, I draw a line. I don’t believe for one moment that you truly care about the Iraqi people, because if you did, you would be presenting an objective view of reality. Include pictures of Iraqi’s killed, raped or dismembered by Sadaam. Talk about the value of human life, discuss the potential for real disarmament, potential future wars, etc. Just don’t show how stupid you really are by presenting totally non-objective materials with no supporting evidence. Please find a better use for your time and intellect or at the very least post this crap in the Soapbox. Matt Gullett PS. It looks like you signed up for CP just to post this crap. Go away.

One non politically correct comment I have read suggests that African Christians and tribal religions are more likely to be susceptable to the Aids epedemic than the African Muslims. If this is true, it could really change the demographics of the continent. Regardz Colin J Davies

I have previously replied this message, but my message is deleted??? The operation name should be changed to as it is "Free Iraq's resources". Main reason for this for this war is freeing resources of Iraq, by achiving this operation some of Iraq's may die and this is does not seem to be important for people who are responsible. They may improve and test their new weapons, this is a chance!!! for them. They may also free people of Iraq, i am sure that the child we see in this picture is now as free as birds :(

Aren't people who live near Central Park in New York terrified of the gangs in the Bronx? I mean I hear horrific tales of crime, mafia like gangs, drive by shootings and all manner of sorts. Aren't US citizens also afraid of the Islamic fundmentalist cells hiding in each city? What about those neo nazi nuts who blow up government property because the government treats blacks equally? If you read the news as the truth for everyone you would think every soul in America is gingerly ducking from street corner to street corner. You would think I take an armed guard with me when driving to work so I don't get hijacked, that my house is mined to deter thieves and that my daughter wears a chastity belt so she cannot be raped. Point being that while one person is murdered in their house, 45million others go on with a reasonably good life. Of course we must not accept the crime as the norm and not do anything about it, but we also must not get whipped into such a frenzy that life stops. If we took the news headlines as something that impacts everyone directly then we should all be cowering in our broom closets 24/7. Yes things are bad in Zimbabwe. That won't be happening in South Africa though, things are different here plus we have a saner president (even though he says daft stuff on HIV and AIDS.) Plus South Africa is a beautiful place to live. I have a wonderful standard of living, far better than any Londoner, New Yorker or Hong Konger. I don't go to the bad places, I don't attract the attention of people I shouldn't. I work hard and hope it helps the country.

Point taken. I didn't mean any offense by my question, I was just wondering how the politics of the country had affected your life. BTW I live in Michigan's Upper Penninsula, not much in the way of crime, my doors stay unlocked, no gangs, and unless you are afraid of deer not much to worry about except for if the fish are biting.
