Another pilot suicide?!?!?

So it seems pretty obvious that MH370 was pilot suicide, but now Germanwings 9525 is starting to look like one too. Investigators have reported that the CVR shows that one pilot was locked out of the cockpit and trying to "break the door down" while the pilot in the cockpit did not respond. Ok, possible pass out, heart attack, stroke, etc... but that wouldn't explain why the door was locked. Door lockout has to be engaged on purpose and is unusual. Also, the memory card from the FDR is "missing". Also unusual on a non fly by night airline. But if I've learned anything from watching Air Crash Investigation, it's that weird stuff happens up there. But door lockout should NOT be one of them.

I understood that locking the door was standard practice these days?

You are supposed to keep the door locked, that's for sure. I was under the impression that there is a keypad on the door, but that the keypad can be locked out from the cockpit? Can't be possible a person has to open the door. What if there is an emergency? I'd think you'd certainly want someone at the controls 100% of the time, no exceptions. Getting up and opening the door would be a breach of that.

So I'm watching CNN and they confirmed my "theories": 1) the door is kept "locked" 2) from outside, there is a keypad and you can enter a code and the door will open UNLESS the override / lockout is turned on from inside the cockpit -- if the override / lockout is turned on, then door has to be manually opened 3) FAA regulations say you aren't allowed to have one pilot only in the cockpit. If a pilot has to leave to take a bathroom break, the head flight attendant MUST come in, so there should always be TWO people in the cockpit at all times 4) flight had a huge descent, but it was "controlled", but no radio contact 5) pilot outside the cockpit could be heard on the CVR trying to break down the door Not looking good :(.

Well, i don't think about such things anymore. You know, check the passenger list or something else that might be interesting, take it to people that create conspiracy theories and they tell you a complete story to that, why and how they managed to do it. It's just sad that so many ppl died, besides that there is too much room for imagination

That would have required the autopilot to be on surely? and if the pilot was incapacitated quickly he may not have had time to turn it on (if he had time surely he could have also opened the door?) yesterday they were saying a cracked windscreen, to day this, tomorrow it may be something completely different, I will wait until the office cause is released

Apparently the code entry to the cabin can be overridden from the cabin, it had been and similar problem happened to another 320 due to iced up stall sensors; a long steady descent, that was cleared by rebooting the computer. Its all very odd, but at least we have the CVR and black box, unlike MH370...

The auto pilot is USUALLY on but it is only a button on the dash so their is nothing to atop the pilot flying the plane manually, in fact some pilots like to do that (according to a family friend who used to be a commercial pilot)

Has their ever actually been a suicide of this nature, I know it comes up as an option every time a plane crashes but has it ever been proved? or is it just an urban myth?

Well, I do this from time to time as well, to be honest. I have been working on fixing this flaw of mine. However, to claim an important event was caused by suicide, without proof, is beyond me.
