If you do that, then the narrow minded morons win. Do you want a lounge where you can laugh, think, and relax - or a lounge where the only jokes are the people who post? The only entertainment is the narrow set of "permitted ideas" that rigid mindsets can cope with? I know which I'd prefer. Yes, we have to have "standards" - but Chris has been pretty explicit as to what those are. And with the exception of spammers, and a couple of trolls I can't think of any posts this year which violated them (except some the UK election coverage)

Pretty much describes the evolution of the lounge from the vibrant place it was a few years ago to the stagnant place it is today. Although envisioned as a wild frontier the internet and subsequently the lounge has yielded to the ever intolerant forces of political correctness. :sigh:

The same thing happened to me last week - twice, on totally innocuous messages. I didn't know that it was possible to downvote people in the lounge; the hamsters must really hate us. :sigh:

As far as I know, you get 5 points every time you vote "abuse" on a message. I wonder if someone is trying to accumulate points by voting "abuse" left and right on messages?

That's possible, but I would expect that too-frequent voting by someone who is not a Protector / Administrator would trigger a flag. Especially if his vote is the only one.

That would make sense, and such an abuse vote abuser should be banned as a troll.

Any particular message? Some people have really thins skins (or a low brain cell count, I'm not sure which sometimes) and abuse vote anything they even slightly disagree with. Have an up to compensate!

Because if you get a downvote in the lounge it's coupled with an abuse vote. And when you have a couple of those you're gone, perhaps not forever, but you remember, right?

Not to worry. You will be reinstated and the person giving you the abuse votes when you are not abusive will be told to cease and desist. It is really not a big deal especially when the person voting abuse is of low status whose down vote doesn't carry any weight against your reputation. I get them from time to time with no loss of reputation points, but even if I did lose points I really wouldn't care. Relax, be happy. :-D

Send me a link to the message. I'm updating the reporting feature this week to remove some members' ability to report items. They can view, they can download, they can post, but they can't randomly slap people down anymore. Sick of it. [Edit: It's the same high-rep user who randomly reports items for no apparent reason. He's not at the level of "abuse", just annoying, seemingly whimsical, and not at all helpful. He's also my case study and Exhibit A as to why "don't put restrictions on members with rep greater than X" never works. High-rep members need checks and balances too.]

I was never into brown nose points systems, it does not control me in the least and you should not let it concern you. Truth can hurt

I don't care how many rep. points I accumulate, either. However, the only way to be "downvoted" in the Lounge is to have posts marked as spam/abuse. Too many of those could lead to banning from the site.

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

I up-voted it even though I use your initials all the time for a StreamReader object, sorry.

                                          - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.
