I've been on here for years, mostly recreationally. So someone asks a legitimate question this morning, and I actually saw the flaw so I answered it. Three of you high and mighty "power users" closed the question because

Closed because the post is not clear, or is incomplete and has not been phrased in a way that allows it to be fully understood..

I understood it, I read his code example, and my answer existed before you closed it. I took the time and effort to write it as a code block, and even test the code locally before submitting. What was the point of closing a question with a working answer? As of this moment, the user with the problem can't see my answer, you deleted my well formed and working answer for what reason? I solved his problem but you're hiding it from him! Don't you feel powerful - this is what I hated about Stack Overflow - you try to help but the high and mighty power users crap all over you, and it's obvious that they didn't read the question. I'm talking to you

What is wrong with you? Why are you so selfish and ARROGANT? I'm logging out. Try to help and you get crapped on. Nice system you got here, Chris.

You right about that question and about to be pissed-off about to closing it... However to run away will leave you with no options SO is - maybe - too deep into it already, CP will be if such you will not change it... Think about to change it instead of running away... (After all, you answered to this point 4 question, and only one closed, so you have 75% pure success...)

I wish you hadn't met this, but...you are preaching to the converted as far as I am concerned. I've brought it up several times in Bugs'n'Sugs because it happens far too often. I don't believe that a question with an answer should be closed at all, unless it's spam or abusive. And yes, it is rude, arrogant, and selfish. :sigh:

Why not just go to http://www.codeproject.com/suggestions.aspx[^] and ask nicely for it to be re-opened?

Why should they have to, I think is the real point. I agree with the OP, and I share in their frustration.

Of course that list starts with SAK.. Yes a common thing across all places I've noticed is that sometimes if the Big Guys (though many are not like that) don't understand something, they'll blame the question instead of their own lack of knowledge in that area.

He is the one who wants the question re-instated, and if Chris and the team agree then they will fix it. Yes, I know some questions get closed for rather questionable reasons, but that is the problem with an open forum like this. It's a bit like downvoting, it happens, live with it.

On Stack Overflow you have to see Microsoft as always being right, it's like a religion to them and that is why i now post my programs here and steer clear of S/O Others have tweeted they feel the same but it seem that Chris only has ears for MS as if they own him or something. There loss is someone else's gain!

Difficult though - when you spend time testing and writing a solution, post it, get a request for some clarification from the OP and go back to find that The Usual Suspects have closed the question since he replied. Meaning you have to leave him in limbo because you can't reply to him at all...

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I agree. It happens quite often when get a reply to a comment and the question has since been closed. I do agree that if there is a solution the question should always remain open. Just don't count anymore unclear posts beyond the 3 anyway and leave it open. However, it feels like 90% of QA questions are unclear so I have little sympathy for them getting closed. Hopefully the OP reads our comments before it gets closed and realizes they need to be more clear. My favorite is when you ask for clarification and they copy and paste the original "question" as if that clears things up.

I've been on here for years, mostly recreationally. So someone asks a legitimate question this morning, and I actually saw the flaw so I answered it. Three of you high and mighty "power users" closed the question because

I know nothing about your particular post, but you are right on about Stack Overflow. Their formula seems to be: 1: incoming new question 2: as quickly as possible, close it and mark it off topic This helps no one and drives people (like me) away. If it is spam like "cheap nike shoes" then yes, delete it. When my kids ask something in a less than perfect way, I try to figure out what they mean and answer it - I don't say "you are off topic" and walk away.

Hmm. I just checked the question I think he means: Cope and paste listview more advanced[^] and it's interesting but that also has an answer from SAK - who is listed as one of the people closing it as "not clear, or is incomplete and has not been phrased in a way that allows it to be fully understood" - according to his answers list. For some reason, that leaves a nasty taste in my mouth...

I doubt that the motivation was that three people disagreed. Taking the time to formulate an answer that is deleted a bit later, complete with the question. Why would anyone take their time to answer a question, if said question is going to dissapear? Sounds like a bad investment to me. You're downplaying the complaint, it seems :)

You're right, if we knew ahead of time we likely wouldn't help. But since this happens at a very low percentage, keep fighting the good fight. ;)
