Yeah, but now that the 35 sites he chose to go to before CP are more usable for him, he won't come back here. We're out of cookies. We were relying on his subscription money.

That's silly. CP is free. It doesn't cost anything.

My book, Launch Your Android App, is available at Amazon.com.

On most other industry news sites, my computer falls under immediate attack from malware and ads and worthless flash which covers the page. its Worst than even dirty sites!! Sounds start playing, a garbage instantly moves on top of the link I wished. Thank you codeproject for having a clean page, not a shockwave flash trap of computer death.

Thank you, this is very good Now one of the site will not show their 4 paragraph of content because I blocked their 10 mb of trash  Compare the 4 paragraph of industry news which requires those attack ads, to the wealth of quality content on sites like these which do not hijack my browser

Do NOT do this. This is stealing content without giving them the advertising revenue they need to survive as a business. It is no different than torrenting CD.

Ah, so now I'm a thief? :) Let us be clear; it is my PC, I pay for the electricity, I decide what the damn machine does. I never gave any website owner the permission to load third-party crap that they do not take responsibility for. As for the revenue, that is not just coming from ads - and those tracking-cookies will not be around permanently either.

You mean after the ads steal my bandwidth? F*ck you.

Do NOT do this. This is stealing content without giving them the advertising revenue they need to survive as a business. It is no different than torrenting CD.

Actually, using a hosts block is very different. If CNN really wants me to see an ad, then they need to host it on cnn.com. If cnn.com is trying to display something from ShadyNetwork.cx, then they deserve to get their crap blocked. They made this bed, now they get to lie in it. Of course, it will never happen because if CNN is hosting an ad on cnn.com and I get malware from it, then CNN is financially liable. The third party ad network not only reduces a small but not insignificant amount of bandwidth for them, but it shields them from legal liability when ads go wrong. I don't know the statistics on the situation, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that ad networks were the #1 vector for malware infections.
